I`m pretty sure that it depends on the park or state that the park is in. At Paramount`s Kings Island you have to be 16. However, in order to volunteer at PKI (for fundraisers for cub scouts and PTA`s) you must me 18! Go figure.

It varies from park to park, chain to chain. Cedar Point, for exapmle, requires that you be 18 years old, or 17 years old and graduated from high school to become a ride op. Once again, it varies.

It may help if you could tell us at what park you wanted to work. Then, a local could probally help you out.

At Cedar Point you must be 18 to be a ride op, regardless if you have graduated or not (that applies to living in the park's employee housing). As far as I know, though, if you will be turning 18 very soon after starting your contract, they'll put you in the department just not on a ride and then transfer you after your birthday.

At Knotts you have to be 18 or graduate high school. I will only be 17 next year, but will graduate, meaning I will be a ride op! That will be so cool.
Ghostrider, Monte or our 2002 ride :) is where I want to work!

Well, I trust you CrystalKat. My sister is very good freinds with the ATL of Raptor from 1997, and when I asked him what requirements I had to meet to work as an op, he said that I should be 18, and that he was only 17, but he had graduated high school, so they let him work. You are most likely right though.

PGA is 16, I would assume SFMW is the same. 16 is the legal working age in California.

State of Ohio says you've gotta be 16 to run a ride. Cedar Point says 18, as noted here. I thought that applied to PKI as well, but apparently not...

When I was there last year, I noticed how young some of the employees were also. When we pulled in the parking lot to buy our ticket, the kid working there couldn't have been more than 12 years old.
