A boy expecting a day packed with fun landed in the hospital Thursday afternoon when a bird slammed his face as he was riding the Kingda Ka roller coaster at Six Flags Great Adventure. A park official said the roller coaster had already plummeted 45 stories back toward the ground and was pulling into the station when the bird struck the passenger's face.

That depends Ensign. Are you trying to determine the airspeed velocity of an unladen African or European swallow?

Firefox sucks also.

Other than a couple extremely minor issues I've seen, I'd say it's a solid browser.

Of course, African swallows are non-migratory.

But Mike, park spokespersons sometimes have to soften the blow of the dangers of their rides when that speak to the media. I just found the way she worded it to be kind of... deliberate.

Here's what I can't help pondering: given that the momentum of the train probably carried the creature along for a few moments after the impact, is that enough for the bird to claim a credit for Kingda Ka? I know this is kind of a gray area...

No credit without a full ride. If he had hit it on launch and carried it all the way, then we'd have something to debate.

Don't pile up on Mike. A lot of people at work can't control what browser they use because too many IT people care more about control than good software.

I am sure we will soon be hearing from a lawyer representing the flock. From what I hear...the brids are now angry.

Hey! This gives me an idea...

At least the kid can rest easy knowing that, according to the laws of probability, he never needs to fear any bird-skull interfacing for the rest of his life.

Hopefully it wasn't a yellow bird. One well-timed finger tap and there'd be a closing speed of 200+ mph.

Oink.

A black one would have taken out the whole train and the section of track it was on.

This would have been a real news story if it were reported that the coaster had plummeted 45 stories in a direction other than toward the ground. Even plummeting into a vat of tapioca pudding or a pool of hydrochloric acid. But plummeting toward the ground? Kind of a given.

Around here it's mostly because software engineers can't be bothered to actually update their software to work with newer browsers. Thankfully Firefox is slowly becoming standard and fixing both those problems.

I dunno. I think a well-placed mixture of ice and rock blocks can seriously put a stop to those birds.
