Mach Tower at Busch Gardens Williamsburg closed indefinitely

One of Busch Gardens newest signature rides — the Mach Tower — has been closed indefinitely for reasons a park official said were not safety-related. Park spokesman Kevin Crossett said Mach Tower was removed from service July 12 while park officials "review manufacturer-recommended changes to the ride's parameters." Crossett said the current closure is unrelated to a previous closure in late June he characterized as maintenance-related.

With all of the trouble this thing has had, I feel like a Dollywood v Huss kind of lawsuit may be in the future... I am surprised at how much trouble a drop tower is causing!

Glad I got a ride in on it over Memorial Day Weekend. Did they say what was wrong with it before...I can't remember.

Wasn't the problem keeping it from opening on time something about the ride vehicles slamming to forcefully into the ground when being lowered after the initial breaks stopped it after the drop, or something?

How was it boring? I'm not familiar with the Moser drop towers, but assumed it was the same principle as the Intamin Giant Drops.

Both Verbolten and Mack Tower were closed the day I went June 26th. It wasn't like I was that upset about Mack Tower being closed but I almost dropped dead when I saw Verbolten closed, especially since I had driven 9 hrs from Connecticut just to ride it. Hope they can pull it together or else the beautiful renovations in the Oktoberfest area will be wasted.

I liked Mach Tower. While not the tallest of the drop towers, with the surrounding ravines it sure felt like we were way up there. And the view was great - unless you're at the top of a coaster lift, nowhere else do you get an aerial view of BGW.
I did think it was kind of noisy and clunky. The wheels almost made a steel on steel sound, and it made me think of the little drop tower we get at the state fair! However, the park did a nice job with it as far as location and theming goes, and the paint job was cute.
With all the problems, I wonder if they might be having second thoughts about using the same device in Tampa.
