Not even Disney parks are safe from Starbucks

Posted Tuesday, April 24, 2012 1:34 PM | Contributed by rollergator

Starbucks announced plans Monday to open up to six cafes at Disney theme parks in Anaheim and Florida. The first will open this summer at Disneyland California Adventure. The other cafes are planned for Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resort, including locations at Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom, Starbucks announced Monday morning.

On the bright side, this will be a big step up from the Nescafe garbage that the parks now uniformly* serve.

(* There are a couple of kiosks in each of Epcot and Animal Kingdom run by an outside operator that uses Joffrey's, but that's about it.)

I honestly welcome this. While Starbucks coffee is nowhere near the best coffee in Pittsburgh, they will be the best coffee at Disney.

I concur. While it's not the best coffee around, it's definitely far from bad. in fact, they serve better espresso than our local shop that advertises "The Midwest's best Expresso! [sic]"

I don't drink frappu-creama-minta-cherry-ccinos, only bold, black coffee and espresso (mostly). I can count on them for consistency, boldness, and accessibility. Dare I say that I actually *enjoy* Starbucks?

The end of this video (about the 3:30 mark) relates to this thread. I recommend watching the whole thing, especially if you're familiar with Northern VA.

Do the Disney parks have other 'outside' food vendors, or is this the first? I don't remember seeing any at Disney world the last couple times I was there. Depending on where they are located, seeing a Starbucks (or any other chain) at Disney can ruin the fantasy just a little. I don't want to be reminded of the outside world while I'm at a Disney park.

I don't like seeing Subway and Panda Express at Cedar Point, but at least those places have better food then your average CP eatery. Disney doesn't really need help with the quality of their food (although I can't speak about the coffee since I don't drink the stuff).

I was always sort of opposed to Starbucks. Not for any particular reason - I suppose I resented the hoity-toity aura of the brand, or something.

Then one year my brother-in-law gifted my Wife & I about 8 lbs of various whole bean flavors (as an employee, they receive a free bag every month or something). We've never looked back. I now grind a fresh batch of Sumatra (or Komodo) every night before bed. The delicious aroma is even enough to stifle my resulting self-loathing. ;-)

Magic Kingdom used to have McDonald's kiosks, IIRC. I think all they sold was fries, though.

I can't think of any chains that are currently in the parks, unless you count the Rainforest Cafe at the entrance of Animal Kingdom.

Don't they still have McFries at DHS, near Tower of Terror?

We've never looked back.

Do yourself a favor, and order a bag of Major Dickason's Blend from Peet's.

I like Starbucks (overpriced as it is) but I will be disappointed if they take out Ghiradelli at Downtown Disney to make room for one. I'll drive over to DTD even when I'm not in the area to visit the parks just for a stop there.

There used to be a McDonalds in DCA (and a french fry cart in Disneyland) but that's gone with the refurbishment. Disney has had concessions in the past, Carnation being the oldest surviving one in Disneyland.

I can just see it the next leap day... 24 hours of Disney...sponsored by Starbucks.

I for one am very happy about the announcement. I may actually get up to visit parks at rope drop for a change knowing that I can grab a white chocolate mocha or a frappuccino to get me going. Plus, on cool nights I can see me grabbing a mocha/hot chocolate and cinnamon chip scone to enjoy while I watch the parades/fireworks. Not to mention the delicious seasonal drinks like a gingerbread latte during the Christmas Party, or pumpkin spice latte for the Halloween Party.

Ohhhh...just thought of a perfect breakfast at the Magic Kingdom; white chocolate mocha with one of those giant cinnamon rolls...ok, not going to the Grand Floridian today, otherwise I'll end up in the park at the Main Street Bakery!

That looks good. Some of my favorite non-bigboy coffee is from a little place called Porto Rico in NYC. Looking back, I wish I had brought some back with me, but I guess I'll have to visit again.

I also wish I had Doughnut Plant donuts right now. Mmmm..

Mmmm, Doughnut Plant. Now if there was one of those at Disney parks, I'd probably no longer fit in even their rides...

Since I've got several friends working Starbucks...I'll decline comment on that. ;)
