Oldest Operating Steel Coaster?

RCDB says Little Dipper at Memphis Kiddie Park, but I'm not sure. Can't wait to ride it again July 29th seeing as how I grew up right by the place. :)

The Matterhorn at Disneyland is the oldest operatiing steel Coaster. It opened up in 1958 and is in Fantasyland.You can check it out in a book called Rolercoaster by David Bennett.

Actually, Little Dipper is older than Matterhorn. It opened in 1952.

I gheard Matterhorn was the first ever coaster with a steel track, Lord bless ARROW! I find it hard to belive that it is knowing how old wild mouses are. I think it might possibly be called," First coaster with tubular steel track" But I am preety shure its the first steel coaster.

How do we get such damn smart people on this site? Yeah, just like I said before, Little Dipper is still operating and still older than Matterhorn. He did ask for the older operating steel coaster. Not the oldest operating steel coaster with tubular track. There's a difference.

I believe Harry Traver's Jazz Railway may have been among the first steel coasters, back in 1925, not to be confused with some of his other coasters (like the CBC) that were wooden with steel supports.

I'm not for certain, but I thought the Jazz Railway was the first all steel coaster. It was only about 40 feet high.

The Schiff Wild Mouses'predate the Matterhorn. There are a couple of them still up and running.

well, the definition of a steel coaster is one with tubular steel rails. Otherwise, it is a w oodie with steel support, or a woodie with steel running rails. But the oldest steel coaster was the Matthorn @ Disney. It was the first *true* steel coaster.

I said a steel coaster is one that runs on tubular steel rails. Hypersonic is a new breed. It is made of steel, but it is a Air Launched. Steel is a title for a coaster. Like Wild Mouses are made of steel,, but its title is Wild Mouse. a B&M inverted is called a Inverted Steel, cuz it has tubular steel rails. Got It?

Alright, Little Dipper is the oldest steel, Matterhorn is the oldest with steel tubular rails. Also, the High Speed Thrill Coaster at Knoebel's opened in 1955.
