Morey's Piers will feature GCI wooden roller coaster for 2013

A $12-million pier-spanning wooden roller coaster that will dive beneath the boardwalk and race across a cantilevered bridge before navigating a series of high-speed twists and turns is expected to open in 2013 at Morey's Piers seaside amusement park on the Jersey Shore.

Awesome. My engineering side is flipping out because of the cantilever bridge, and "hollowed out" lift hill supports according to the concept art :)

I haven't said "wow" about a ride announcement in quite some time...but wow.

The language I used was a little more colorful than "wow." And I actually said the words aloud when I saw this at 6am this morning. Said them rather loudly, too.

That concept art has to be about 5 years old. I'm glad it's finally coming though; but a lot can change in 2 more years.

Go Gravity Group!

I'm not Steve, but...although Wildcat is a ride I like somewhat, three other GCI installations are Top Ten Wood for me..namely, Lightning Racer, Thunderhead, and Kentucky Rumbler. Granted, I haven't been on the last two since '08 and '07 respectively, but still....

Layout reminds me a little of Ravine Flyer II, which is a good thing. Although I think that one was done by Gravity group.

I used to think Roar West was the worst thing GCII ever built (not that I'm holding them responsible for the park's substandard maintenance). These last couple years, Gwazi blows that thing off the map - it's pretty atrocious.

Did anyone else find it strange that a story about a Jersey Shore roller coaster is featured in The LA Times?

I know I saw this announcement already, like maybe 6 months ago. It looks like fun!

That was my first thought after I wiped the drool off my keyboard. The bridge between the piers made me think of the segment of RF that crosses the road.

That was my second thought..see other post. I had seen the concept art before, but I don't think I'd ever seen anything "official" in print..or, at least from a legitimate news source.

I thought so too. I clicked on this because I initially thought it was a dead thread brought back.

It was up in the air with the economy, but Jack Morey said in his blog they are preparing for the new coaster, moving the sky scraper and getting rid of the Jersey Junkyard and Mummy dark rides, which both pretty much sucked anyhow.

They also modified the track on the Great N'oreaster, obstensibly to make it smoother.
