Whats up with the Chiller

There's been alot rumors about the OTSR being replaced by lapbars . However, my friend was there yesterday and said that he saw the Robin train behind the station just with new OTSR. I dont want to believe this but does anybody know anything about this or has anybody seen the train lately?

Because that ride goes both ways, I don't know that a lap bar would be adequate. Not because I think you would fall out, but because I think you need something to secure your body backward. When moving forward, the seat obviously keeps you pinned, so a lap bar is fine. Not so in the other direction.

But are the new OTSRs better than the head swallowing monstrosities that used to be there?

Im going to go there this weekend.I'll check it out if I can.

I heard that they were redesigning the OTSR on all the shuttles by Premier. They were trying to make the pads sit more on the shoulders instead of the ears. Should be a vast improvement.

Let's not forget the Schwarkopf shuttles (ala Viper @ SFoG) go backward with only a lap bar...

Ah, good point. However, doesn't Chiller propel you through LIM's backward? If it does, then the train is pulling you, whereas on a shuttle you're accelerating by gravity at the same rate as the train.

I’ve never ridden Chiller, so I can’t say there, but Mr. Freeze (basically the same as the Batman side of Chiller, but with a vertical spike) the LIM’s push you up the spike, but you fall with gravity.

No. The first set of LIM's is forward and the second is on the hill and is also forward, just pushing you up the hill a little farther so you get enough potential energy to come back through.

Guess what, i just went to SFGadv. today and from what i was told the lap bars are true. I was in line for the last row of Batman(the one on the Chiller) and i asked the lady standing there. She said its in Ohio and they are putting on lapbars. However she did say that the trains go to Ohio every year to be fixed. But she sounded serious about the lap bars. I'll update with more news, if i can get any, next week.

If I'm not mistaken, the Chiller uses the LIMs to get you up the spike so that you have the full length of the train to be propelled downwards by those same LIMs. IF it was just gravity, I don't think you'd get through the corkscrew and tophat/cobra roll elements. If I recall, most of the headbanging was on the way backwards as well (I assumed it was because you're being shot backwards through the elements, particularly the corkscrew.)

Mayby low OTSRs So You wont Bang your Head

I asked a ride operator why Robin was closed and she told me that the train was having the OTSR removed; that was why the train was not in the station.

She said that the train was DEFINITELY having lap bars installed, and that the ride would re-open in two months or two weeks (she couldn't remember which).

It also makes more sense that Robin would be done first since this was the more uncomfortable of the two.

Um, why would the trains go to Ohio

I'm pretty sure thats where either Premier Rides or Phoneix Rides (i forget who made the coaster) is.
