DH Morgan coasters, Any Good?

Are the Morgan Coasters any good? Think they would be good for a hyper? What would a Morgan hyper cost?

Morgan already makes hypercoasters...Steel Force, Mamba, Wild Thing, and most recently Steel Dragon 2000 (giga) and Phantom's Revenge. Morgan also made Steel Eel, down at Sea World Texes, which is commonly referred to as a junior hyper.

As for a cost, all three Morgan hypers coast around 10 million to build.

Morgan also builds trains for wooden coasters and mine trains. As for are they good or not, I have ridden Steel Force and rate it above the Magnum. Phantoms Revenge is also quite good, and they're all very smooth.

As for things I don't like about them are the rolling stock that are ugly as butt (I'm sure everyone will agree with me on that) and also the supports used for the lift hills and all big hills following (more of a personal aesthetics opinion): to me B&M's column-like supports are more aesthetic to me, but thats just my opinion;).

Steel Eel was a very fun ride. I laughed the whole way through. For 150 feet tall, it was a spectacular ride. However, I agree that their trains aren't very cool. Especially the ones for the wooden coasters, like the trains on the Giant Dipper or Colossus. I've only been on Steel Eel, but I assume their other rides are good too.

I've only been on Steel Force, since I still haven't ridden PR.

Steel Force's airtime was nice. Not really ejector, but good floater. I thought the brake run kind of put a damper on the ride, but it's still a great coaster. Nowhere near my favorite steel, but a lot of fun.

I'd have to agree with Lynch on the brake-run thing; on the Steel Force the ride is slowed considerably. And while that gives you a good chance to see the approaching camelbacks, it takes a lot of fun out of the ride (I still really enjoyed it, though!).

I wish more companies would do like Intamin on Millennium Force: put a block right at the end so as not to interrupt the ride while it is still going through its paces. If not for Apollo's Chariot, it would be my favorite hyper (out of AC, Magnum, Steel Force and Phantom's Revenge). I can only guess that the other Morgan hypers are as good. If they are, then that's a good thing.

--Now, just to do something about those god-aweful trains!:(

Lynch, NO WAY have you not been on Phantom's Revenge! O M F G. I have ridden every Morgan adult coaster in the country now (Steel Force, Mamba, Wild Thing, Steel Eel, and now Phantom's Revenge) and lemme just say...I haven't been all that impressed with Morgan. I liked their rides, but for hypers, they were dead last. Mamba was teriffic, Steel Eel was a lot of fun, and underrated, but Wild Thing and Steel Force were pretty underwhelming for the most part. Then, on June 13, 2001, I rode Phantom's Revenge.

UNBELIEVABLE.

There is NO WAY Morgan designed that coaster! If you have ever ridden the Intamin Supermen hypercoasters, and think THEY have ejector airtime...just WAIT until you challenge the 'Revenge. You will be blown away, almost guaranteed.

So, I hope I haven't overhyped this coaster yet (ha, yeah right), but you NEED to go ride it ASAP, before the trims go on to slow the train to enable two-train operation. Not that trims will ruin the ride by any means, but go now when it's running all out. You will not be disappointed!

Phantom's Revenge is truly amazing. Not only is it one of the smoothest rides I've ever been on it's also got crazy airtime. Not only that but with the new cars everything seems more open. After riding Phantom's Revenge I'm praying for a Morgan hyper for SFWoA in 2002.

What is with the trash about Steel Force? Steel Force kicks! It's the only Morgan I've rode, so my opinion is if all Morgan's are like Steel Force, they must be great also. Brake run on Steel Force is not all that bad, I can take a little dead time to recover from the g's in the helix, otherwise I see no reason Steel Force should be "ok".

Me.... i am not real fond of any morgan coaster. I am not really a morgan person. Morgan always picks the worst place to put there brake runs.i didn't see steel dragon on any of the top ten coaster lists yet, mill force went up to 2 in its first year. magnum is still no 1 arter a few years and i don't see any morgan coasters at number one. All in all morgan needs to change there design tactics a little bit and they could have some good coasters.

I wish there was some other way to slow down PR without using trims, because right now it is a killer ride! Oh well. Does anybody know where the trims will be located? The only plave I can really think of that would work it right before the second drop.

Steel Dragon not hitting any top 10 lists may not have much to do with the quality of the ride, but rather the number of people who've gotten over there to RIDE it.

LOTS of Americans have ridden MF, I'll bet rather few have been on SD.



As for Morgan's trains, I think the Phantom's Revenge trains are an amazing piece of work. They're comfortable, airy, and unique.


I doubt they'd put PR trims before the 2nd drop. That'd be pretty pointless -- the ride isn't moving that fast there anyway, and after those trims it'd just pick up a ton of speed down the 2nd drop. I'm hoping for a set of magnetic trims on the climb into the station -- all they need to do is bleed off some speed before it hits the real brake run, and then they wouldn't have to kill any airtime at all...

Everyone is saying that the Morgain trains suck. However, the new Phantom's Revenge trains (which use SP's chassis and Morgan's cover) are excellent. They sit two rows per car instead of three, like other Morgans. I think this allows for a twisted layout to be done much easier.

Phantom's Revenge is truly an amazing coaster...it has at least 9 or 10 points of airtime and almost every one of the 9-10 points are ejector airtime...and it just throws you out of your seat. Smooth as any coaster, and the cars are great and very comfortable. It's the best coaster I've ever been on and everybody needs to make it to Kennywood soon to ride it.

I'll tell you what, look for Phantom's Revenge to be *VERY* close to the top of the steel tier. This is the most perfect steel coaster I have ever ridden. It's a lttle too short, but smooth, fast and the airtime ranges from floater to extreme. This is my favorite coaster layout right now. Great job Morgan!

Then there are those of us who have never experienced a Morgan... :)

Mindbender...Can you hear the Riddler chuckling?

Morgaan's woodie trains have hurt/distryoed some rides here in CA. Colossus got them, never the same, Grizzley, always has and always will suck, Giant Dipper still a great ride but could be better with PTC's.

On top 10 coasters Steel Force really didn't look cool. The bunny hops looked slow and so did the turn around but I haven't ridden the ride!

I have ridden Steel Force quite a few times and I have found it to be a very enjoyable ride. Its smooth, it doesn't hurt you at all... its just a flat-out, fun ride with some great floater airtime on the second hill and third hills, and the speed hills leading back into the station. My favorite part is the helix turnaround, where the trains keeps picking up speed long after you think the train is going as fast as it possibly can.

As for the trains, I can't say that they will win any beauty contests, but the retracting seatbelts ease loading immensely, and the seats are pretty roomy and comfortable. I wouldn't mind seeing more Morgan hypers, personally.

Phantom's Revenge is the smoothest coaster I've been on. It is also really fast with lots of airtime. The cars are pretty cool too!
