After Dania Beach's iconic wooden rollercoaster, Hurricane, ground to a halt last April, county commissioners are discussing plans that may have the coaster roaring back to life as a part of the entertainment district at Zoo Miami. At the last meeting of the commission's Recreation & Cultural Affairs Committee, Commissioner Dennis C. Moss' resolution directing the mayor's office to explore the feasibility of relocating the coaster within the Zoo Miami property unanimously passed.

Completely in name I think?! Didn't all the non-wooden hardware come from Race World?
This shot from Mike really illustrates what was moved in the Little Dipper relocation. Spot the white timber, not much.
Nothing to see here. Move along.

Even when Starliner was moved, They did keep the old trains with the buzz bars, though part of the ride had to be re-profiled to fit into Cypress.
When you move a "recently-closed" wood coaster, you're lucky if you can reuse 40 percent of the wood.
Big Dipper and Orzek Wildcat, for instance, will probally never run again.
I will also guess that if Son of Beast doesn't reopen by 2012, it's a loss due to the refurbishing costs.
I'm loving the idea of keeping this in South Florida. The only odd thing is that this whole Zoo Miami expansion was supposed to be the waterpark and entertainment center in a few years and THEN the amusement park and hotel. I'm not sure if this will change the priorities, or if they'll just set up the Hurricane close enough to the zoo to be a part of that until it's time to build out the whole park.
Zoo Miami is a very nice zoo, especially if you rent one of the safari cycles and pedal your way through it, but this coaster would really make it popular with the locals.
