Pinfari Zyklon question

What is that little swimming pool looking thing in the middle for? Just to weigh it down?

That looks like a portable model, so I am almost sure that the pool is there to weigh it down.

Laser at Dorney had a lot of smaller pools to weigh it down, if my memory serve correctly.

According to the GP, it's to catch you if you fall out during the loop (sadly I really did hear this at Dorney a few years ago).

That looks to be a ZL-42 (Looping Zyklon 42m) and yes, that is a ballast tank.

Do they at least treat it to prevent it from becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes?

Didn't you hear, that's the new mayfly breeding pond, Cedar Fair's way of being green. You can't have a decent park without mayflies(Fishflys for some).

This particular one doesnt inspire much confidence.

It looks like my friends and I set it up over a couple of beers with random cinder blocks, patio blocks and wood blocks as cribbing to level it out.

Yeah, with the weight of water (8.35lbs). If it's got 1000gal, which I don't think it does that's 8350lbs!!! Apparently that's all the weight needed at this location on the support..

The high turns would have slower train speeds, so I don't think as much ballast is required as if it were in an area where the train was moving at 40mph or so...

I ride that ride every summer. Its a winner.

That particular ride got my daughter over her fear of coasters. She progressed from that, to the woodies at Knoebels to Farenheight in one Summer

I don't know if this is common on rides that need ballast, but I know of at least of two in the UK that were filled with large stones instead of water as it attracted unwanted ducks into the ride area.
