Segway Company Owner Dies In Segway Accident

OK, it isn't directly park related, but they have been discussed in several threads here. The guy goes over a 30' cliff while riding a Segway. That's what you'd see if you looked up the word "irony" in the dictionary.

That truly is bizarre. Kind of like two different people dying from golf cart accidents at Beech Bend in the same week.

I have to admit that I did chuckle when I first read the news of his death. Maybe I'm going to hell for laughing, but I'm a big fan of irony and this has irony written all over it.

I admit, I laughed too. I'm not sure why. If the CEO of Ford died in a car crash it wouldn't be funny. I guess 'dangerous' isn't the first thing that comes to mind when you see a Segway.

Come on people, you are not being very sensitive. You need to find a BALANCE between humor and cruelty. I thought you all were more UPRIGHT than this. I'm LEANING toward leaving this thread all together.

Would you like to borrow a segway to get there?

Seriously, I think that the reason that it is humorous is because of the way we have thought of Segway. Because I view the Segway as a kind of silly and pointless invention, this news comes to me as a punchline for the whole Segway story arch.

It does make me feel bad that I find humor in someone's death. He had family and friends who probably loved him and will miss him very much.

You're right. It's absolutely true, and I do feel awful for his loved ones.

Still, it's a Segway....

^ Agreed, a human being died, who leaves behind family and friends. But the funny part is trying to imagine how you could not stop or otherwise control the thing before plunging over a cliff, especially when you own the company that makes them. What next, a rogue Hoveround?

It's not like the guy invented the thing. He only purchased the company 10 months ago.
