Work about to begin in Green Bay for Zippin Pippin roller coaster

Posted Thursday, August 5, 2010 3:56 PM | Contributed by Jeff

With an eye on beating the winter frost, construction crews will start work Aug. 16 on pouring the concrete foundation for the Zippin Pippin roller coaster. City officials soon will select another contractor to assemble the Zippin Pippin's wooden frame, starting in September.

Makes me kinda wish we had a Let Me Google That For You equivalent for coaster nerds that searched RCDB.

You just have to get creative.

I still think a "Let me RCDB That for you" would be better.

Have I mentioned there's a database on CoasterBuzz? Start typing at the top of the page. Stuff happens magically!

Yeah, but "Let me CoasterBuzz that For You" just doesn't have the same ring to it ;).

(and yes, I do look at the pix on here too)

In any case, the discussion is somewhat moot, because per RCDB, the new incarnation of Zippin Pippin is going to "use the trains and much of the mechanical hardware of the former Thunder Eagle roller coaster from Race Worldin Pigeon Forge, Tennessee." Trains which, of course, were three bench PTCs.

Thanks and very good news! Now what of those wretched PTC falling bars? Perhaps the old Zippin bars will be used, but if not, perhaps they will be the 'non-falling/ must physically pull down/ only go so far down' PTC ratchet bars used on Viper at SFGreat America. I have yet to see those 'special installations' on any other coaster.

edit - the type of bars used on this ride is wishful thinking on my part. damned if i don't cover my arse on this forum :)

^^Yes, but "Let me 'Buzz that for you" rolls right off the tongue.

Well Tek said someone should create one of those things where Google searches for you in a sarcastic way for when people should have looked something up at RCDB instead of asking people about it. Then Jeff chimed in to remind people that CoasterBuzz has a database, so people shouldn't be looking things up at RCDB anyway. Then Tek said that, "let me CoasterBuzz that for you" was too difficult to say. So Sirloindude said, "let me 'Buzz that for you" sounds a lot better. And I agreed and complimented him on coming up with that.

Then Moosh said something gross (that may or may not be true) and I chose to ignore him. :)

Not that any of it matters because my opinion is the only one that matters.

Huh? I took another walk :) I'm such a homebody - and discovered this nice wooden park a block away. It's easier to get to than Great America ;)

^It really is! I'm so tired of 'city life' and it's a nice escape. I gotta admit though, every time I walk through it, I can't help but think how great a coaster would be winding it's way under these trees :)

I'm really excited I'm gonna have a Zippin Pippin in this neck of the woods (well, 3 hrs away I guess).
