New York's Luna Park reveals ride lineup

Italian ride manufacturer Zamperla, which supplies theme park giants such as Disney, Universal Studios and Six Flags, promises to use Luna Park as a testing ground for its newest cutting-edge attractions. The first phase of the project is to open on Saturday, May 29, with 19 rides, mostly of the whirl-n-hurl carnival variety.

Cool! Sure, I'm a nostalgist who would really be thrilled at a recreation of the original Coney boardwalks, but this is prety sweet - and the upcoming attractions for '11 make it seem like "a real park" of sorts.

Yeah pretty much the way Disneyland looked two weeks before it's grand opening. They were laying asphalt the day before. Probably same thing will happen here.

Yeah, assuming that it will be mostly concrete or asphalt, I wouldn't worry to much about it. If any areas will be landscaped, those might not be completely ready.

I don't think landscaping is an issue. It's getting everything cleaned up and looking presentable to the public, and that all operations are approved and ready to go. You hope no city bureaucrats or inspectors show up like the proverbial fly in the ointment and decide to muck things up.

Man, I totally "get" Zamperla's vision for Luna Park, and I overall I think it's fantastic. It's a little odd that there will be a Disk'O AND three variants on the Rockin' Tug, but hey, that's Zamperla's product line. It's obvious, though, looking at the video, that they've tried very hard, when possible, to make connections between the new rides and the famous classics from Luna, Sea Lion, Dreamland and Steeplechase.

Conceptually, I am impressed. I hope they pull it off, and I hope it is wildly successful.

I am very exited about this entire project.

As for walkways... I wonder if they will go the "Paver" route like Kings Island did for Planet Snoopy.

The one thing I wish this park had was a nice Carousel. Maybe someday. I think Denos just has a Merry Go Round.
