Six Flags and Cedar Fair Merger

Can't read the article, but based on the headline it sounds like wishful thinking on the part of some Six Flags bond holders.

Cedar Fair is in no position to acquire Six Flags, and Six Flags is bankrupt.

No one is talking about one buying the other. The speculation is that two companies if under new ownership would just merge their operations. There is a chance that both may be taken over by investment funds. I don't see why this will help either company.

It'd probably never happen, but...yuck.

Hmmm...more likely that Avenue went to Sandusky to investigate an acquisition of Cedar Fair and decided that $15/share was too much to pay. The world does not revolve around Six Flags, and the trip to Sandusky wasn't disclosed because it had nothing to do with Six Flags.

That's my speculation. There would be no point in trying to combine the two operations...both are widely regarded to be too big as it is; making them bigger through combination would not fix that situation.

There's no incentive for any invested parties to merge. Having twice the overleveregedness (made up word) would be silly.

I wouldn't take the comments of one fringe lunatic opinion out of context.

Oh boy!!!! That'd be about as bad as Google & Microsoft merging!

Hopman - I'd say more like GM and Chrysler merging.

Google and M$ are fairly successful, not drowning in debt.

Speaking of... K-MART is closing down our local store. I guess since the Giant Eagle and Radio Shack in the same plaza moved across town, they just haven't been seeing any business. They've brought in a liquidation company that's got everything discounted 10% off the regular price - I've never seen people pushing so many carts full of stuff out the door.

The worst part is, at 10% off the regular price, and no clearance/ad prices honored, most of the stuff they're buying can be had from another big box retailer at a better price. Guess that goes to show that the perception of a deal is more powerful than the actual price.

I was at a Sears in Denver last week. Even though the mall was busy, Sears was DEAD. So dead half the store was in total darkness. Almost was like walking around in a dark haunted house.

The K-Mart down the street was doing ok but I noticed just about everything in the store was in...Spanish !! Even the PA announcements were done only in Spanish as was the sale circulars...only in Spanish. I really felt like I was in Mexico not in Denver.

For as much as you guys diss Sears, I actually had a plesant expeirance at one today. I ratchet that wasn't working right. I presented the tool and before I could finish what was wrong with it, the CSA had a new one off the shelf and in my hand. No questions asked.

Oh yeah, and on an unrelated note a new Five Guys shop opened in Manchester, NH today. OMG!!! Makes In-N-Out look like McDonald's!!!

Really? I'm still not convinced. I like 5 Guys burgers, but I compare them to In-N-Out, and they don't quite cut it.

Maybe it's the novelty of In-N-Out, and the whole not being close to home thing, but I definitely give them one up in that comparison.
