Other rides??

So we know about the four coasters, shipwreck falls, boomtown, and the new waterpark. That hardly makes "20 new rides and attractions" as stated in the press release.

Can anybody confirm any others? In the original coasterbuzz.com I think I remember reading about a "Rodeo"?

I know they are building another ferris wheel which seems strange to me becouse they just put in one thast summer or two ago, any way I also heard something about a ride simialar to the Which'es wheel at Cedar Point, mabey its going to be called the rodeo or somthing?

Hehe. Another ferris wheel? I think not. They got one, new for '99. Yea, it has a long line but that is cause they only run 1/3 of the cars. Does anyone know why? Anyway I doubt another ferris wheel and i think any thrill rides added should be cool. Also for the 20 new rides and attractions, the 2 shows, and all the rides in the kid and water areas make up a lot of these.

The Giant Wheel (or Americana or whatever it's officially called) was a second-hand ride. It was purchased I believe from Boblo Island in Detroit. When the park reinstalled the ride, it was missing one of the drive wheels and therefore it could not operate at full capacity. While I like the ride, I wish it would have had some sort of lighting package. It looks pretty weak without lights at night.

As far as other rides go, let's take a look at what we know so far:

* Lazy River

That is 17 new attractions right there, which wouldn't surprise me if Premier decided to round up a bit on their stats!

Boblo's ferris wheel had spinning gondolas. Does the wheel at SFO do the same?

No it doesn't Scott. I had heard that GL bought the ride from Boblo..... I guess I heard wrong. Does anybody know which park the Giant Wheel at SFO came from? I remember seeing the cars in the employee lot in the winter of 1998 and they were completely rusted and looked awful. GL did a nice job last year of renovating the wheel.

Too bad they didn't paint it light orange and sky blue and called it Mr. Hyde's Wheel of Doom.....

Another reason, as it was explained to me, for light capacity runs on the Giant Wheel was due to high winds. Supposively they have to balance the wheel out in inclement weather.

They should have to balance the wheel out in all types of weather, good or bad. If the wheel's not balanced, the speed will fluctuate and will cause bad things to happen (burn out motors, unpleasant rides, etc.).

Regarding the Boblo rumor, I think it's possible to fix the gondolas so they can't rotate, so it's still possible that it's the same wheel.

The Wheel sat in the employee lot of over a year! They wanted to put it in the year they redid the main gate but ran out of time or money or both.

The wheel only runs at a quarter of its capacity because of the drive wheel thing. For whatever reason the wizards in the maintainance department couldn't get it fixed. Hey, it certainly might not have been their fault. But it did take them more than two thirds of the season before they got all of the caps onto the cars...

You can't blame the park for that one. They had to special order metal brackets to be fabricated. The brackets would hold the caps in place. They took a long time to arrive.
