Is SFA actually worth it?
I'll be going to PKD and BGW in a few weeks and we were thinking about adding SFA to the agenda, but now that I think about it, I don't know if it is worth an extra day not to mention almost 3 1/2 hours of extra driving. Time is only a problem if we're wasting it. Here's why I ask:
1)Superman:Ride of Steel- I've been on the one at SFNE and evidently this one pales in comparison, since I'll be riding AC, is this hyper still worth taking a ride on
2)Two Face-I live 20 minutes from PKI and we have Face/Off, a nice ride but nothing I care to ride soon
3)Jokers Jinx-Ditto about Two Face, not to mention ours is enclosed and has lap bars
4)Batwing-I'll be taking a trip to SFWoA soon
5)Mind Eraser-hang n bang, need I say more?
6)The Wild One-any better than the PKI or PKD woodies
7)Roar-ditto Wild One
I know I'll make it to this park sometime in the future, but is it really worth it to go to one of the least favored Six Flags parks?

KK: You said you repect my opinion so I'll be honest with you. SFA is "nowhere near" the best park in the world. HOWEVER, I love having it as a home park. The lines are never really long. The coasters are decent to GREAT. And I just generally have fun there. Anyway to specifically address your concerns.

I havent been to SFNE, but any day I can experience "that third hill" and the "non-inverting corkscrew" is a good day to me.

Face/Off and Two-Face are exactly the same. If you dont care for one, you wont care for the other. Me? I love them.

I'd rather ride FOF w/ the lapbars. At least there is no midcourse and since you can see the track you know when/how to brace.

Yeah I felt the same about X-Flight, you ride one you've ridden them all. (Still I cnt wait til Batwing opens because X-Flight ROCKED!)

I'm not impressed with the Paramount woodies, aside from Sonny. Poppa doesnt do *much* for me, Racer and Rebel Yell I can take or leave; Hurler pretty much blows after the first turn; Grizzly though I like because of the tunnel "air-lat". However, Roar is running GREAT this year. There is airtime all over the place with an interesting layout. Wild One is decent, kinda like the Racers but is has good "air-lats" and a fine helix. I find them more enjoyable that the woodies @ PKD.
There are a couple of other things you should check out two. The "roto-shake" Iron Eagle gives a pretty intense ride (assuming it's working). The "breakdance" The Rodeo is also fun. Additionally, there are two good water rides that are fun but dont get you soaked: Typhoon SeaCoaster and Renegade Rapids. TSC is kinda a cross between an old school "Tunnel of Love" and a regular log flume. RR is pretty lackluster themeing wise, BUT the Rapids are fast through the entire ride so it's interesting.
That's about all I can say about the park. I've never been in the waterpark sidem but it's cool cause it keeps lines short on the regular rides. Oh yeah, one other thing, you only have to be there like half the day to do all the above rides. (that ROCKS!)

Who cares if you've been on SFNE's Superman. Will you stop riding hypers? I can't tell you if the SFA's is good beyond the first 140 feet of the lift because the chain broke on my way up. Have I ever mentioned that? ;) I loved the Darien Lake version, so I say do it.
Roar is the other ride you've gotta jump on. GCI makes a mean twister, and I don't understand why this ride doesn't get more attention.
So that's two coasters I wouldn't want to miss. If you have a Six Flags pass, why wouldn't you stop in for an hour or two on these rides? I did the same Mid-Atlantic trio of parks last year and loved it. I only wish I would have split a day between PKD and SFA, then spent two days at BGW.

Roar is the other ride you've gotta jump on. GCI makes a mean twister, and I don't understand why this ride doesn't get more attention.
So that's two coasters I wouldn't want to miss. If you have a Six Flags pass, why wouldn't you stop in for an hour or two on these rides? I did the same Mid-Atlantic trio of parks last year and loved it. I only wish I would have split a day between PKD and SFA, then spent two days at BGW.

I agree with Jeff, if you have the chance, just stop in for a little while. S:ROS is a fun and intense ride.
I am a big fan or Roar and Wild One. I don't think Roar has any straight track between the lift hill and the final brake run. And Wild one has some great airtime and ends with a tight helix.
Even if you don't have a Six Flags pass, there are plenty of places in the DC area that you should be able to dig up a coupon.

I agree with Sam. From your descriptions of the various rides at SFA it sounds like you have already made up your mind about this park.

If you call yourself a coaster enthusiast you'll make a trip to SFA. Most enthusiast I know don't discriminate against certain rides because of other coasters they've ridden. I'm referring of course to your comment about SFNE's S:ROS. If people took that attitude to riding they'd never ride anything besides Millennium Force and that would be a boring world. Have you ever ridden a coaster that was built in 1917? If you ride Wild One you will. Have you ever ridden GCI's second coaster Roar, considered by many a top-20 or better coaster? If the answer is no again than you owe it to yourself to visit our little park in Maryland. BTW some enthusiasts from Texas visited our park this week and loved S:ROS and this is after riding Titan. So there:)

If you make the trip to Hershey, don't ignore the rest of their coaster collection either (okay... maybe you can ignore Trailblazer). The Great Bear and Comet are two of the most under rated coastsers around... and the Wild Mouse is extremely wild.

to Dave OBrien, I heard that batwing was going to open tommorow.june 9th,but was disappointed to learn that it probably won't.according to "someone's"recent trip report.that person has stated that they have delayed the ride's opening indefinatly it seems that there are still too many testing problems and costruction work needed on the load station.I'll be there tommorow and if it is running I'll be riding.I'll post a full trip report upon my return ,be sure to check it out.
Whoa! A lot of you are taking it that *I* don't want to go. I really want to ride SROS and Roar and if I went I would definitely ride all of the coasters. I love Face/Off and FOF at PKI. I was just saying, I wouldn't go to say SFKK just to ride those two if they were at PKI. I was just putting those aside as I really don't *need* to ride them at the moment(I was actually just waiting for JJ to get lap bars). I'll definitely be going by 2003-4. Just because of my dad's work, I can't really waste his time with an extra day like that if I don't need to right now. I personally would never ever turn down a park. Heck, I even wanted to go to Wyandot Lake to ride 1 or 2 coasters and that's pretty far out of the way. 2 coasters did it for me at Holiday World. I do want to go to SFA and WILL go sometime. I just wanted to know if there is anything don't miss. About the SROS Jeff, I was basically asking, "If I've been on Titan, should we drive 3 hours to ride Goliath(pretend it was the only coaster I've not been on at a park), if I'll still be able to get to it in a couple years." I basically had to beg my dad just to give an extra day for PKD(he loves BGW so that was a definite "YES!!!"
