Don't stand next to the coaster ?

stop it at 1:27 in to see someone standing right next to the coaster.

I guess this park has lower safety standards than others

I wouldn't say he's "right next" to it. He's a good ten feet away from and a few feet lower than the track. Still not a great idea but not as close as the perspective makes it appear.

The video was shot by the park for publicity purposes. The person standing by the ride is a maintenance man. He seems to be far back enough to appear mindful of safety, and it is at the very beginning of the ride. I think it's ok.

I think he's fine. I would guess people walking under Magnum would be closer than this guy was.

I've seen pictures of a maintenance man being on the structure of Zeus (IIRC) at Mt. Olympus while the coaster was operating before - but I can't find the picture now, though.

I guess you better stay away from the corkscrew at Cedar Point because you can stand about as close as that guy with accentually the coaster.

I've been on commercial shoots where people are standing so close on a wooden coaster, you could punch them in the face as you rode by. As long as they're supposed to be there, I suppose you can't fault them for it.

He's definitely far enough away to be safe.

On a side note... that Cyclops photo is awesome because it looks like the people in the 2nd half of the train are being ejected.

Last year i saw people taking pictures of ravine flyer II from the track as it was running. I think it was the same thing as what Raven-phile was talking about. They knew where to be as the train came by and such. Its a wonder that some people just can't wait to take pictures and such when a coaster is not running.

One false move and basically it would spell the end of you, makes me wonder what goes through someones head.

Re: the Cyclops pic... looks like the guy is staring at a repair. I wonder if he was watching to see how it behaved "under load" ..?

^^ I also saw that on Ravine Flyer II last year. Surprised the heck out of me when our train zoomed past two people standing on the catwalk!

IIRC, Jeremy was the one who first told me about Cyclops (aka, "the one-eyed wonder woodie"). Amazing how that particular drop stands the test of time...still a top-ten backseat ride IMO. :)

Wisconsin is also the only place I've been permitted to do a body slide face-first at a waterpark... ;)

On Diamondback's media day, a maintenance guy was standing on the very end of the catwalk along the brake run, right where the train enters the mags at full speed, taking photos.
