Are Cedar Point and SFMM Getting Too Much Attentio

Look at Knott's, they aren't neglected. Ghostrider, Supreme Screme, Hotel, Perilous Plunge, 2002 coaster...
As for SFWoA and Cedar Point, there is a HUGE market for amusement parks in Ohio. Six Flags wouldn't have transformed Geauga Lake into Six Flags Ohio if they didn't feel like they could dip into the Ohio market.

Cedar Fair operates like this. The amount of money made by an individual park goes to that park for improvements or new rides. So if Dorney Park makes enough to get a new coaster then they get it. Cedar Fair doesn't take revenues from their other parks and dump it into CP
Six Flags however works opposite, they take the amount of many that is raised and spends it where they want to.

That is sort of like saying why is Micheal Jordan getting too much attention (I KNOW he is retired I am making an analogy bear with me). Why not cut his salary to minimum NBA wage and start paying the water-boy 5 million a year? Its the same with parks. CP and SFMM are a success, so the companies try to keep them that way. They don't immediately scream "AH PROFIT!" and dump the park.

I wouldn't call it cheating because there aren't rules that the two parks have to follow. I would call it a little wrong that they spend the money that other parks earn though. But MM is a major money maker for SF. Rarely a day goes by when the park is not crowded. In my opinion, if MM didn't keep adding rides, the lines might be in excess of 3 hours per ride.
1. Cedar Point and Magic Mountain are not competitors.
2. Yes, Cedar Fair operates parks as individual business units, Six Flags does not.
3. Regardless of the company, they build rides based on return on investment, whether it be long or short term. If they don't expect ROI from the spending, they won't spend the money.
It's about money money money. It's not about which parks get the cookie.

All I know is I'm glad my home park isn't WOF or VF. I would rather it be the two worst Six Flags branded(not counting SFEG or other non"flagged" units) parks. Obviously Six Flags does send coasters and rides where they will get the most ROI and where they need the rides. Here's the 2001 SF Report of why I think they did what they did:
1)Nitro to SFGAdv-I believe this is the most visited Six Flags and obviously Nitro was needed for capacity and to hopefully overshadow all the headbangers(Viper, GASM, The Chiller) and roughriders(Rolling Thunder). ;)
2)X, Deja Vu, Goliath Jr. to SFMM-Capacity, competing with Disney and Knott's, possibly the record, something else for the kids
3)Titan to SFOT-Anninversary, original Six Flags, they can keep business rolling and probobly can bring a lot more business from this big state
4)Deja Vu and V2 to SFGAm-Capacity seems to be the most logical, very long lines at this park from my experiences
5)Deja Vu and Acrophobia-awhile since last big addition, possibly capacity(I've never been), competition with other parks around(Wild Adventures? PCw?), I'm not sure about this one really
6)V2 to SFMW-competition with PGA
7)X-Flight to SFWoA-they really want this park to be a big star obviously, competition all over the place from CP, KW, and PKI
8)Batwing at SFA-this is a good draw being so close to a big tourist center, competition with BGW and PKD, wants record for most clones: a flying coaster(X-Flight), an SLC, an invertigo, a mad cobra, an Intamin hyper(SROS-DL)-who knows?

I don't think Six Flags is as dumb and raging coaster buying as we think. Though they do need to slow down so they can get ROI for everything they're down on. It might take a few years, but a lot of these parks look really nice and there's a lot I really want to get to.
And I do think CP gets a little too much attention which I believe it has recieved because of the most coaster thing which has blocked out the others that really deserve the spotlight on these coaster shows. I actually want to see more on SFMM. That's just my opinion though.

I think the problem is that many of the people posting here are fairly young, and they see some parks getting 3 coasters in one year, they think that that is the norm.
I can remember back when it was an event when a park got one coaster two years in a row. That used to be a REALLY big deal. The coaster boom of the late nineties has changed all of that. A lot of people think that if a park doesn't get a new ride every year, they are being ignored. case in point:
Look at what SFKK has built in the last few years.
2001: Sky coaster
Yes, its a additional charge attraction, but its a major addition to the park.
2000: Road Runner Express
Once again, just because its not a big deal to enthusiasts, it is a big deal to the public. Its very popular, and a fun ride. Another good investment, and it brings in the families.
1999: Blizzard River
This is a BIG rapids ride, and it looks pretty durned costly in my eyes. Its a very large investment, and a good one for the park. Story himself has said that the most important family attraction at a theme is the rapids ride. They are wildly popular, and just because it is a coaster, most of you are over looking it.
And don't forget that before the Six Flags buy out the park built 3 wooden coasters, a vekoma hang and bang, the world's biggest standup, the worlds biggest shoot the chutes, and a really big water park (probably the biggest draw in the whole thing.)
Six Flags has built 3 attractions that are excellent investments for the future of SFKK. Of course, here in cyber space, people perceive SFKK as being ignored just because other parks are bringing in copious amounts of revenue, and SFKK isn't. Sorry to break it to you guys, but every park can't sustain a new coaster every year, or even every 2 years. what do you want Six Flags to do? Evenly spread out all the coasters, and go out of business?
