Southern Star Amusement wants to develop Six Flags New Orleans site

The company that last year shelved its interest in redeveloping the shuttered Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans is indicating renewed interest. Southern Star Amusement is in "preliminary talks" with the city of New Orleans to buy the theme park, chief financial officer Tonya Pope said. Ceeon Quiet, spokeswoman for New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin, said all attention is tuned to resolving issues with Six Flags. The city's legal representatives, she said, would consider Southern Star Amusement's interest only after the Six Flags dispute is resolved.

Why is the city being stubborn on this? If this group has a bona fide and workable plan, why not let Six Flags out of the lease and let this company pick it up?

SSA's plan actually looks like it could work. Going to need a lot of money to repair that place, but I think they could pull it off. My main concern is Mega Zeph, it's been sitting there rotting for almost four years.

I vaguely recall that this Southern Star outfit was pretty thin on the credibility front.

Edited to add: here are a couple of old threads on it---pretty much what I remembered. Unless the new (unnamed) themed entertainment partner is pretty serious, it's no surprise that the city is blowing them off.

Yuck, what a mess. Looks like the physical ride system (track etc) could be saved, though.

You'd probably have to replace every single bearing and chunk of wire because of the corosion.

Yeah but would they have to pay six flags for there IP in the park ?

With all the belly-aching and attempts to pinch Six Flags, I'm surprised that SSA hasn't been scared off.

As I mentioned in previous topics about SFNO, the city is squeezing blood from a stone. If that's any indication of how they are going to treat whatever business occupies that acreage, I'd steer clear of them.
