Adventureland: The Movie How did we miss this??

Well, I'm baffled.

A new flick about an amusement park FILMED at KENNYWOOD is about to come out on April 3rd, I have to hear about it from my sister (who does backdrop for theater).

Here's the link to the movie site:

Did anybody know about this? I didn't see a news thing or ANYTHING.

The first park move that doesn't involve death (see Final Destination 3) and we're clueless!

Let me guess, she plays some socially inept or mentally not right freak? I've never seen her do that before.

Both of my careers are hitting screens soon. Adventureland in the movies and Parks and Recreation (with Amy Poehler) coming to tv soon (shot in the style of The Office).

Should be good.

I'll be in Hawaii when Parks & Rec starts, so hopefully I'll remember to set the DVR. I <3 Amy Poehler.

You know, we've seen countless photos from parks because they're wonderful things to shoot, but you don't see a lot of really good video or film from them. Yeah, there's the same crap POV and shots of enthusiasts in front of rides, but those never capture the feel of a park.

You make a good point, and one I've not really thought about before.. In fact, the Disney parks don't really stand up to the screen either, even when Disney produces the events (such as the parades) for tv it comes off as stale/stagnant.

I guess the same can be said for nature shows, and that type of thing. I think there is so much life/movement/energy in amusement parks that just doesn't translate to the screen.

My favorite Parks and Rec line so far, "What does the 'public' know? They're stupid!"

The first 25 people to respond to the Cleveland International Film Festival's twitter message about Adventureland will get free passes to the only screening in Cleveland.

Check it: http://twitter.com/CIFF/status/1337730816

[Edit: Looks like not many people have responded. Get your tickets! (I can't go. I've got another CIFF movie I'll already be at. So somebody tell me how it is!)]

It looks very funny! It seems like it will have that "Clerks" thing going on where the employees encounter obnoxious customers. I just wonder if any of them will be coaster enthusiasts. ;)

The 80's soundtrack looks good as well, if you are an 80's buff like me. ;) I look forward to seeing it!

Well, sup[osedly the director or writer DID work at a park in games. There's a good shot at it.

^There is nothing funnier than a movie based on a writer's real life experiences with customer service. ;)

How True. I've got a few customer service horror stories from my slog in retail (three years). It IS funny how STUPID customers can be.

On the other hand, at CP in '05, we had a running list of "stupid guest questions"

Among them:

"Where do they store the coasters during the winter?"

"Can I bring my dog on the ride? (From a blind man)

"Why can't you let my kid (who's a inch too short) ride?

"Do you work here?"

In the case of the blind man, dogs are permitted on certain rides.

From the Cedar Point website,

Service animals may ride on: Carrousels, CP & LE Railroad, Giant Wheel, Space Spiral and Paddlewheel Excursions.

^^Yeah, I would think as long as the service animals are not wearing platform shoes they should be good to go!! ;)

The movie is supposed to take place at Adventureland on Long Island so I'm guessing that's where he worked. I enjoyed Superbad so I'm sure I'll enjoy this one, with or without the amusement park. Besides, Bill Hader is hilarious- one of the only funny people on SNL.

Sounds like there are still some free tickets to Adventureland from the Cleveland International Film Festival available on Twitter. I've seen some @replies from a few CBuzz members. Good on you!
