Conneaut Lake debt auction may force sale of park

Summit Township has accepted the lone bid for the sale of a $152,000 debt the township is owed by Conneaut Lake Park. A bid of $200,000 was submitted Tuesday afternoon at the township’s year-end meeting. The as-yet-unnamed winning bidder could end up forcing a sale of park assets — including land — to satisfy the judgment by filing for a writ of execution with county court, according to Bob Bailey, an attorney with Shafer Law Firm, who handles sheriff’s sales for the county.

Uh, they've been able to hold on by not paying their taxes. That's not a business strategy.

I have to honestly wonder why a "public trust" even have to pay taxes. It the "public" already owns it aren't they really just taxing themselves? Seems a little backwards to me. We don't tax the park districts do we? We don't tax municipalities? No we tax the people who use their services....and some that don't.

I hope they are able to save the park because I'd hate to
see another family type park shut down. I'm still missing
Williams Grove even though I know the fate of that park
was just that nobody wanted to buy it and not debt. Long
live the Blue Streak!

Yeah, one can only hope. I have only been to the park once but I had an amazing time. It went beyond my expectations. :)I am glad a lot of our visit was taped! I miss Grandma. She was a blast to talk to!
