NBC Universal trims 3% of workforce, including theme parks

General Electric Co.'s media and theme park subsidiary, NBC Universal, this week laid off about 500 employees — about 3 percent of its work force of 15,000 — as part of a plan to trim $500 million next year, a person familiar with the situation said Thursday. Several correspondents and other staff were laid off at NBC News. Positions were cut in roughly even proportions across NBC Universal's ad sales, theme parks, movie studio and cable networks.

Ugg! Rough Stuff! Businessses are scared right now, and now that it's an official country-wide recession, it's only going to get worse.

That explains why I saw The Hulk standing in the unemployment line the other day - and he didn't look happy.

^^ - I loved how as soon as some think-tank declared it a recession, like we needed their stamp of approval, the markets took a nose-dive. I say find those 3 guys and string em up, if they had kept their mouths shut it wouldn't have been a problem. ;)

That's exactly my point though. The market takes a big nasty XXXX because an overpaid nobody, who works with a bunch of other overpaid nobodies, issued a press release. Hell, Reagan knew we were in a recession, and he's been dead for 4 years.

Of course, this could also explain why the market's in the crapper. The idiots doing a bulk of the trading didn't know we were in a recession until someone told them point blank.
