Skyscraper to debut at Cedar Point's Challenge Park

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

eaturing a giant propeller consisting of two arms that will spin guests in a full circle, Skyscraper is one of the most thrilling rides in the amusement industry.

Four riders, two on each arm, will sit in open cars with their feet dangling, on opposite ends of the propeller. The arms of the propeller quickly rotate in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction, spinning riders 16 stories into the air at speeds of up to 55 mph. At its highest point, riders will be upside down 160 feet above the ground!

Skyscraper will have an individual ride fee, and admission to Cedar Point will not be required.

Anyone have any images or video of another model somewhere?

Here's the ride CP is getting in it's previous home at Valleyfair and before that at Dorney.

Now I just need a photo of it at CP for the trifecta. :)

I wonder if the sign comes with the ride :)

Oh. Weak. Although, it will probably have an easier time getting riders in Challenge Park. I think I only saw one person riding it at Dorney the few times I have been there.

I rode it at Dorney with LoriU. It's actually a very fun ride.

^Fun and quite scary--hence why many people choose to stay on the ground:) My favorite part of the pre-ride experience was when they told us to empty everything out of our pockets and they had tupperware containers ready for us.

I rode it at Dorney. Thought it was a lot of fun. Great airtime the first time you whip over the top.

I've seen one of these at SFFT. I think I've finally found something that I have no desire to ride.

I guess it's time to turn in my cbuzz card...

I'll turn in my card along with you, Brian. When I saw the announcement, my first reaction was "no way am I getting on that".

They should stick one of these on the Stratosphere Tower.

^There could be wind issues with something like that. But maybe not.*** This post was edited by Jason Hammond 2/13/2008 6:41:36 PM ***

How funny you guys consider it an intimidating ride, as I've never found them to be all that scary- and I'm a wuss when it comes to heights.

I've personally never understood Challenge Park, or its lure.

I never have, and never will, pay an extra "fee" to enjoy an attraction when I already paid admission at Cedar Point. That said, there must be plenty who do to make it profittable. It always looks rather dead when I take a glance.

The ride looks like something that should be at the Ohio State Fair, not Cedar Point.

Yeah Greg, did you ever recover all your hearing after that ride? hehe. It was fun though.

Challenge Park is for resort guests. It always has been. That's why it is where it is instead of in the front of the park.

I think Challenge Park is a great idea. Most parks already upcharge for go-karts or mini-golf or skycoasters and things like that. CP put them all in one spot, gave it a name and make it seem like more than it is.

Maybe it would help if I actually stayed at one of the resorts. All these years, and I have never stayed on site. Is that some kind of sin?
