Ghost Town opening with two new rides

Posted Thursday, February 8, 2007 5:37 PM | Contributed by Jeff

After closing in 2002, Ghost Town’s management and many neighboring businesses are hopeful. As crews work to resurrect the park’s worn-out equipment, local motel owners are already receiving reservations from tourists planning summer trips to the park. By May 25, the wiring installed in the 1960s throughout the park will be totally replaced, and sections of sunken pavement on the 4,000-foot mountaintop must be reinforced and repaved. Two new rides will be installed — a 100-foot drop tower and a family-friendly roller coaster — to replace a few old rides that were sent to the scrap yard.

I can't wait for my first visit. Hopefully with DW's MM opening this year, GTiTS will receive an overflow of enthusiasts as well.

This is awesome news. I can see this place picking up and becoming very popular, considering there are already motel reservations for the summer. If the owners know what they are doing (which by the ride choices so far, they do) it should turn out well.

Visitors to the smokey mountain area have quadrupled in the last twenty years. I think with good marketing they could get attendance close to a million.

Chuck, who says one of the biggest deterents on getting to the park is having to take the sky lift. Many don't like em at all.

The skylift is just one of many ways to get to the top. There is a shuttle as well.

Any word on what the new family coaster will be? It isn't posted on the all knowing rcdb yet.

Best wishes to GTitS. It's nice to see the old park revive to be even potentially better than it was before it closed. I've always wanted to see this unique little park and was slightly disappointed to hear closed down a few years ago.

I wish Ghost Town set their hours that they going to be open. Every time I go to their wed site on the Hours Of Operation wed page all they said they are going to be open on May 25th and close in Nov. I am going to Dollywood in the morning and Ghost Town late afternoon in june and I like to know what hours they are going to be open.

^^ dex...I'm forced to wonder if this "new" kiddie coaster isn't being brought in to replace Lil Devil...

Duane currently has Lil Devil listed as "under construction", but the ride's nearing 50, and has been idle for five years. Have to consider the possibility that it may be beyond repair.

Family friendly SOUNDS mouse-like, and three coasters is certainly preferable to two...and that would make for three QUITE different rides.

Now if only they'd build a mountainside woodie and some flyers along the edge. :)

Yeah I second that! Since there's a GCI at DW, my vote goes for a GG for GTitS...and some sweet Bisch Roccos.

The schiff "Lil Devil" will remain at the park. The cars are being completely refurbished. The Red Devil is getting a completely new train and will be renamed.
