Myrtle Beach Pavilion reduced to rubble

The landmark oceanfront Pavilion building - long a destination for shaggers, concert-goers, tourists and locals - is a pile of rubble eerily offering a view of the ocean waves behind it. Only the Hurricane roller coaster and a few smaller rides still stand on the west side of Ocean Boulevard at The Myrtle Beach Pavilion Amusement Park.

Nonetheless, funny how I noticed the typo in the headline only to get one-upped by ARN&R before even getting in a single joke...ya know, like the greatly reduced admission prices... ;)

Hmm, I can only assume that the word shaggers has a different meaning in the american context to what I'm used to... I'd be careful with that one over here!

Mostly because of the Austin Powers movies, I think pretty much everyone uses the word shag the same.

Drove by the park this weekend and although it was dark, it was very apparent that little was left. It makes me sad to see the Pavilion go since I've been going there for years. I hope the Hurricane sells (even without its trains, who wants those I don't know) but I doubt it is worth the effort to save it for most parks.

I heard that there is a descendent of the Marquis de Sade (the same guy who invented the Chance Toboggan) who has made a bid for them.

Shagging is a dance style that was popular in the southern Coastal states in the 1950's. It was brought ot national attention with the release of the film "Shag" in the 1980's,with Myrtle Beach be the focal point.
