Fire breaks out at Gatorland

Firefighters were battling a blaze Monday morning in a building at Gatorland, a 110-acre alligator theme park and preserve. Officials say the burning building housed a gift shop and administrative offices and that the fire did not appear to threaten any animals.

^ LOL, I had no idea where the place even was....then last year I had to get from Sanford to the Turnpike on my way to my sister's in Lauderdale, and there it was....

Cypress, Gatorland, Weeki Wachee, the old Marineland - hard to even *imagine* the FL that we used to visit when I was a kid....er, hatchling... ;)

Wow...Marineland. Is that even there still?

I remember visiting Gatorland in '79, I think. Place made me nervous, with the tiny walkways hovering just a few feet above certain death.

^ The main "show" building from Marineland was there when I drove by, about 2-3 years ago....IIRC, I read in a UF publication that it's used by UF/State of FL for research in marine biology.

Yes, Marineland is still there. Sounds like they offer some similar activities to Discovery Cove, on a much smaller scale.
