Municipal water service to Michigan's Adventure approved

It's a good sign but I caution everyone not to get too excited. The project is not required to be finished until sometime in 2007. That expansion may still be a few years off yet.

Also bear in mind that a $5 million dollar cap budget at a 500K visitor/year park is like a $10 million outlay at a mid-size CF park like WoF and VF.

Parent company Cedar Fair L.P. of Sandusky, Ohio, CEO Richard Kinzel, while in Muskegon for a board meeting this summer, told The Chronicle that his company will expand its indoor waterpark operations and that Muskegon would be considered for such a park.

Hmmmm...

I would say a hotel/indoor waterpark would be an extremely wise investment, not just for those of us who live far enough away to appreciate a place to stay near the park, but for the locals who would flock to the place during those long, snowy, Muskegon winters.

Don't forget to mention that in that same article Kinzel stated that they were not sure if it was the right market for an indoor water park/hotel. He also mentioned that they were going to pay close attention and see if the double J Ranches proposed indoor water park/hotel was successful in the area.
I would expect a campground to be built before a hotel. Camping is extremely popular in that area, with Lake Michigan so near by, and campgrounds that are in the area that are not on Lake Michigan have proved very successful. I would expect more of like an RV park then your full fledged campground with like tents and stuff. Kinzel is not going to invest that much money into a hotel/ waterp park if he is not sure there is a market for one. There is a market for campgrounds and RV parks however.

Playa, the $5 million figure is for the waterline project, of which $400,000 is being paid by MiA.

She declined to say what park improvements may result from the availability of water, but added that an announcement about improvements will be released by the end of this month. Those in the Muskegon tourism industry are anticipating the announcement of one of the largest investments ever in the history of the amusement park.

Interesting, but still doesn't tell us much. Anyway, hopefully this will break the capital improvement logjam. :)
