I don't know when B&M decided to start doing this. Raptor is deafeningly loud but Talon is silent.
If it works anything like the Intamin method, a wheel runs on some piece of track (the Supermen have a vertical fin the entire length of the lift). The wheel generates a current that apparently pulls the anti-rollbacks off of the "sawtooth" so there is no noise.
This is particularly interesting when the things do engage on a stopped train, because the train rolls back a foot or so until the rollbacks catch.
Have I ever mentioned I was on SFA's Superman when the chain broke? :)
