The new Insanity thrill ride was lifted to the top of the Stratosphere tower this morning using a sky crane helicopter.

Nice video.

"The ride will open sometime next week"

It doesn't look like I am going to make it to Solace so perhaps a trip to Vegas is in store.

Anyone of up for visiting LVS then taking a ride on Insanity? =:^)

I am SO hoping the ride will open sometime next week... preferrably Tuesday through Friday while I am out there! :) If it's not ready yet, at least I'll get my first ride on X-Scream.

There is no way with our strict county codes that they are opening the ride next week...I think that's a typo. Every new ride that opens in Clark County has to go through 400 cycles before it can be opened to the public.

The ride is officially set to open March 10th...7 days later than originally planned.

The ride was already testing on the ground. Even if that doesn't "count," it certainly wouldn't take that long to rack up that many cycles.

I agree...400 cycles in it self won't take long, but the county isn't very fast at things of that nature.

One cool thing to mention, is that they have the scematics from the sky crane lift on the insanity website.

400 cycles? What's the ride, 2 minutes long? That's only 800 minutes, or a little over 13 hours. At 1 1/2 minute turnaround, that's only 10 hours.

I don't see how that particular regulation would really affect the opening.

Its not the cycles...its the county. Their inspection process tends to be very tedious. Its not just cycle start and stop. They have you do various things during the cycling process.

I worked at the Adventuredome when we opened Chaos...a relatively simple ride and it took 3 weeks after installation was done to get it open.*** This post was edited by haiderodes 2/10/2005 4:20:04 PM ***

I kind of figured it would be a little tough to install a ride then open it one week later. Trust me, I'm FAR from disappointed as we already have an incredibly full slate of things to do while we're in Vegas. I will give X-Scream a try while I'm at the Strat though. That alone looks insane enough for me! Plus I'm looking forward to wasting $12.50 so I can give the Manhattan Express another try. Haven't been on that since 2000, so maybe it has gotten better since then. Than again... maybe not! ;)

Ray,

The last time I rode Manhattan Express was one year ago this week. It had just gotten out of rehab and was retrofitted with magnetic brakes. That's about the only thing I noticed that was changed. I thought for sure that the ride would be running better once it was out of rehab but that wasn't the case. Like a fool, I purchased a wristband. Below is the link the the trip report I did.

I am sure you will have a good time at Vegas. Hopefully X-Scream will be running a good program for you.

X-Scream is crazy, especially if you get the program where it bounces up and down, I also got the wristband when I visited in November and riding it 15 times in a row was enough for me.

I would rather go ride Desperado down in Primm.
