Pop Century Resort opens at Disney

very cool the largest hotel for the park. sounds really nice. But will they fill it on a regular basis?

It is amazing that the folks down there were so uncertain about the success of on-property accommodations that they gave away the land for the Swan and Dolphin and set up the Downtown Disney hotel row the way they did. I am sure they are kicking themselves to some extent (ala Tokyo Disney) that they could have an even BIGGER piece of the pie had they not given away the farm.

Cedar Point has successfully taken a page from Disney with their company-owned accommodations as well. It is all about length of stay these days.

Well, I have been criticizing Disney moves lately but opening this resort late was one of the smarter things they have done. After 9/11 people weren't exactly flocking to the parks. Keeping the hotel closed (and thus not staffing it) didn't hurt anyone b/c the rest of the hotels weren't selling out.

It was the appropriate thing to do. I think people who had made reservations with the original opening date got upgraded anyway so they were probably happy.

Is this Pop Century Resort a subsidiary of Pop World Media by any chance?

That's pretty amazing, considering (through my Ohioan viewpoint) that this single hotel is almost 2/3 of Cedar Point's entire compound. Disney should really get the respect it deserves, IMO. Even NY has started to boom in tourism, reflecting upon the U.S.'s improving economy, so they really picked a good time to start this up.

In June 2002 I tried to book a week's stay at the All Star resorts (value resorts) and they were full. Had even one phase of Pop Century been open (also a value resort) I'm sure they would have had more than enough guests to fill most of it.

You are talking about a specific high season time. The previous Spring and upcoming Fall seasons were light in attendance (as expected) and the hotel bookings were way down.

It would have cost more to open and then close the hotel (staffing, maintenance costs, etc) than to open it and leave it open..even with the occassional full house.

Trust me...if it was finacially feasible to open the hotel sooner, they would have.

I have styaed at one of the other Pop resorts at Disney, the one with big figures from movies, and I was not impresse. they charged plenty though not like the real good hotels they have, and it was loud and small and dirty. Christina Aguilera could do their theme song fo those Pop resorts!!! I will not be inline to stay at this new one. The only good thing is getting into parks two hours early when U stay. potherwise, it will suck.

I just booked a room at the pop resort for feb 8-13th, I am looking forword to going.
