Cornball Express still OK by local officials

Wow - I'm shocked that for once, common sense and not frivilous lawsuits won the day! Perhaps this country is taking a turn for the better ...
I really need to get my butt to Indiana before I lose the right to call myself an enthusiast ...

Actually, they usually do. It's just that the stupid stuff makes better press.

Hard to believe that residents could think for one minute that the park did not get appropriate planning permission for such a large investment. Looks to me like the residents were trying for an out of court settlement from the park, hoping that they would want to avoid any negative publicity. It appears that the park has called their bluff. Good for them.

Besides, claiming that you've got the Cornball express as a back-yard coaster is a pretty good selling point for a property if you ask me! Some people are just soooo ungrateful ;-)

I agree with BeyondOblivion, having Corni as my back yard coaster would excite me to no end since it is without a doubt wooden coaster genious and not to mention airtime heaven. I dare you to find another coaster shorterthan 2500 that has 3 of the best moments of airtime in coaster existance.

Actually, they didn't have permission. The ride was built in 2001 but the zoning variance wasn't granted until 2002, so they got lucky.

Coasterkid16: Uhhh, that would be Big Chief's Cyclops--which at 1900 feet, delivers air in its first hour that CE can't match till after dark. But hey, they're both fantastic.

I don't see why this couple doesn't just throw a couple mobile homes in the yard and RENT their place out. Most every neighbor does...

*sighs* Ok, gonna have to reverse my earlier statement! :-) It's hard to believe that a park would be daft enough to make such a large investment without first OBTAINING the appropriate planning permission. Sounds like there was a bit of luck involved (well, for the park and us coaster enthusiasts, anyway!).

As for the coaster's impact on the surrounding neighbourhood, well you know what they say: if it's too loud, you're too old!!! :-D Just kidding, it is a pity if the residents have genuine cause for a grievance and are not just part of the "not in my backyard" brigade.

Poodle Boy: Have you popped a tire from your head? Of COURSE a 1900 foot coaster feels too short. It's got some great twisting air before The Drop, you know. Not much after it--but how the heck would you follow that up?

NEXT TIME RESARCH THE FACTS CORRECTLY! Cornball Express is 55 feet tall which still requires a zoning permit,yes. And it's 2,262 feet to the person who said 1,900.

Actually Cornball is closer to 80 feet tall, and Cyclops is 1900 feet long and thats what we were talking about.
