Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 officially released

Posted Tuesday, October 15, 2002 10:04 AM | Contributed by Jeff

Infogrames has officially released Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 today, the follow up PC game that lets you build your own roller coasters and theme parks. Dozens of updates include new rides and more powerful scenery editing, as well as a scenario and track builder. As we reported a week ago, some Target stores accidentally started selling the game on Tuesday, as many lucky CoasterBuzz members scored the game early. The CoasterBuzz Games site is open and testing for all of your RCT2 files.

Order the game from Amazon.

i got it at Circuit city as soon as i left school... the one thing I don't like about it is in the track editor you can't save an unfinished track
i haven't played it much but it looks great

Mine came today! I messed around with it a little before I had to leave for my class and I think its awesome. I love the fact that I can now create my coasters without the park's financial factors. The only thing I wish could have been changed is some of the design aspects. I would like to be able to twist the tracks the way I want to, making real coasters look and feel more the way they do in real life. But this will do, great additions for sure.

The only complaint I have about the game is that you have to load everything. Whenever you click on a scenario, or any other feature (well except scenario editor), it pops into a loading screen. It puts a small damper on it. But after a while, I probably won't mind nearly as much. But besides that, it is a great improvement over RCT, and there is sooo much more you can do in RCT 2.

I just got my today from Amazon. So far I like the improvements, especially the block systems. If only there were some more flats, then the game would be near perfect.

.. that's why you don't pre-order things on the net. Generally you can find them on release date for cheaper and sometimes even before release.

Those places make thier $$ by hiking prices with the promise you'll recieve it soon as they do. Well, as you guys have found out.. A little leg work will get it not only cheaper, but also before most of these places.

Software isn't the only thing, I tend to get alot of my DVD's before pre-ordered peopel get thiers shipped.

Yes! I hate the loading! It takes forever. When I tell my parents I'm doing homework and they come around the corner, I don't have time to X it out anymore.

Trying not to sound like a parent...finish your homework first. There will be plenty of time to play later.

Sorry,

But there isn't a computer on the planet that could render (in real time) over 5000 guests and a hundred plus rides .. Without it looking and playing like garbage.

Some people are too young to remember loading games like King's Quest from floppies...

Did anyone notice in the booklet that comes with the game that Chang is said to be "the world's longest, tallest, and fastest stand-up coaster." ? I was surprised to see that since I would have thought the facts would have come from Six Flags marketing. Guess they forgot about Riddler! LOL!

Mamoosh-

Wasn't that because they couldn't get the licensing for all the comic book heroes? Such as why Superman, Batman etc. were all left out..

I would think so. If they really wanted to get Superman and Batman they would no matter what the price of getting the copyright.

OMG! I didn't know that! I know I'm just about to make a stupid comment, but THAT'S why all Batman type rides are not in the game!

Oh God.

(It's been a slow week.) :-)

My brother has the whole King's Quest Series. He had this obsession about beating them all with all three character types...

PT300 - makes sense. To be honest I haven't gotten far enough in the game to notice if the Superhero-themed coasters are in the scenarios, and frankly I have intention of playing them. I got my scenario editor, I've made my flatland park with a goal of 500 guests, and I have all the rides, stands, and theme elements I want. I'm a happy camper.

King's Quest rules. I still have nightmares about Hagatha.

I guess from what I am reading the reception RCT2 is marginal. When people are talking about the price they got it for, instead of the new/great features it offers, I guess I am not missing that much.
