The Re-Mix accident at the Ohio State Fair, which caused a pair of seats to break off with passengers, was caused by failing welds near the seat according to investigators. Non-destructive testing determined that another failure was in the works on another arm of the ride. Tivoli, the British manufacturer of the ride, has not responded to news agencies.

Yikes, failing welds just sounds scary. It looks like they need to be doing the magnetic powder tests on some additional stress points!

The class of rides called "whirling" rides? Are there flat rides that don't fall into this category?

Pirate Ships, magic carpets, falling stars, conestogas, drop rides. There are a lot of flat rides that don't spin.

All I need is 4.5 million bucks and a half a mile long sliver of land and maybe someone could build me my very own Shivering Timbers. ;)

There is a link to the ReMix on the AmTech web site.

From what I've seen and heard, this was a stupid accident caused by a stupid design mistake, as I can't for the life of me figure out why the weld that failed needed to be there. I mean, it wouldn't have been there if the seat hanger were 4" longer...

Are the cars spinning, fliping or both like the Sound Factory does?
