That's pretty cool! My family, being the Disney freaks we are, always loved the monorail. I used to dream about having one in my own backyard.

Four grand? Not too bad. I wonder how that compares to the backyard coaster. :)

Many backyard rides are making the news. Wood coaster, steel looper, monorail, I've seen trains, etc. Does my heart good :)

When I first joined ACE more than a decade ago, there was an article in Roller Coaster magazine about Kim's second backyard woodie (the name escapes me right now), which dropped off of the roof of his house and did something of a u-turn at the end of his backyard. No chain lift or anything like that, but an interesting-looking contraption nonetheless. An even earlier issue illustrated his first backyard woodie, which featured an absolutely wicked-looking drop taken in the lying-down, face-first position!

I'm actually quite surprised that the website doesn't mention either of those other coasters, which should have been relocated to a certain place in Indiana that is already home to a steel corkscrew coaster that takes riders over a barn... *** This post was edited by Rob Ascough on 4/25/2002. ***

Model coasters and rides

Doesn't it seem like using wood was the most difficult option? I'm no monorail-builder, myself - and I have no idea what this guy went through - but it seems that there would have been other viable options.

Maybe I'll try it myself! (Oh wait, I live in an apartment.)

What is so great about Disney's monorail? I've never been to any of their parks, and I'm not really a fan of them either. So...I guess I wouldn't know...

Yes, I agree with Colin, this is very inspiring! I will defenently make an attempt to build a 'coaster' with a just a drop off the roof of the house I'll live in! I am only 15, so I think in my spare time I'll go to hardware stores and see what the track can be made of, I already have an idea for the train!

That's pretty nifty. It looks like something i would have dreamed up when i was a kid. Congrats to that family for keeping their dreams alive!
