Goliath opens at Six Flags Holland

Goliath at Six Flags Holland successfully opened to an eager crowd Friday morning. The coaster features an extremely twisted layout, and is the first to incorporate a new overbanked element, named the "Stengel Dive."

Check out the lighting on that ride... wow. And I really dig the train's cover panels (though I wish just once someone would do an un-painted stainless steel shell up front, like Millennium Force before the logos).

It seems Intamins design is differant also. It has a curve on the lapbar now, for riders with bigger legs im guessing.. Also, the front of the train is sorta square, and its not rounded like the other hypers. Looks VERY cool!

I hate to say it. (Because it's so darn far away) but that looks like possibly the greatest coaster yet!

I've ridden Goliath on the 29th. It's not as good as Expedition GeForce (Holidaypark, Germany), but Goliath deserves a very good second place.

I really like the Stengel-Dive and the buckels. The track needs to get a bit faster the next few weeks, but after that, Goliath will be excellent.

Intamin and Mr. Stengel just did it again!

Check out the on-ride footage! This looks like a wild coaster, the best yet from Intamin.

Those lap bars look great! It the flanged end I wanted so the upper part of the metal bar wouldn’t hit me before the actual thing that’s suppose to hold me in. Those probably will be on Excelerator and could be fitted on Perilous Plunge if they are forced to make changes.

I would say based on the road cases in some of the pictures, that the lighting may not be a permanent feature. Does anyone know for sure?

Sweet video looks like it packs a hell of a punch for a jr. hyper . It would be cool to see a smaller US park get something similar...Holiday World , MA, SFstL....????????

This would go in awfully nicely at SFMW with their height restriction. That ride really looks amazing.

Regarding the lighting in those pics...those photos are time-lapsed, meaning the longer exposure allows more light. I doubt that's a realistic view of the lighting.

True, but I guess I was referring more to the saturation of color. Even then, I think High End Systems showed us with Millennium Force that you can do some pretty intense lighting jobs.

It looks as if Intamin now plan to use this new type of train design on all loopers/hypers. The trains used on goliath (bar the seats) are identical to those developed for Thorpe Parks Colossus looper. They feature a re-designed nose and a much stronger shell to cover the chassis. Its a shame as I prefer the original curvier design of g-force, millienium force etc.

I would also say that the lighting is temporary and just for the opening. Thorpe did the same thing for the Colossus opening event which ran into the evening. Goliath was only comissioned the day before opening, so I would be very suprised if they managed to install permanent lighting in the time they had available. *** This post was edited by coasterrich on 4/2/2002. ***
