Holiday World to host Heroes Day

[Official press release:]

Members of the U.S. Armed Forces, along with police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians, will be honored with a free day, Heroes Day, at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari.

“We want to show our appreciation to those men and women who are willing to put their lives on the line for their fellow citizens,” says the parks’ president, Will Koch. “We’re offering these American heroes a free day’s admission on Memorial Day, and look forward to seeing lots of them having fun with their families that day.”

Heroes Day will be held on Monday, May 27. Current members of the U.S. Military, including those in the Reserves and National Guard, plus police officers, firefighters, and EMTs, will receive two free tickets for that day when they show their professional identification cards at the front gate. Discounts will be available to additional members of the Hero’s family.

“Since last fall we’ve all learned we shouldn’t take our nation’s heroes for granted,” says Koch. “On Heroes Day, we will dedicate the ‘Avenue of Flags’ in our 4th of July section to our nation’s Heroes with a ceremony involving representatives from all branches of the military, plus an EMT, police officer and firefighter.”

On other days of the season, a special discount will be extended to members of the military, firefighters, police officers and EMTs who show their professional ID at the ticket booth.

Holiday World will open its 57th season on May 4. Splashin’ Safari will open for the season on May 18, with the premiere of ZOOMbabwe, the World’s Largest Enclosed Water Slide. For more information, call 1-877-Go-FAMILY, or visit the parks’ website at www.holidayworld.com.

Once again, my hat is off to this wonderful park. They have the integrety, the class, and let's not forget the spirit, to do this. What a wonderful way to acknowlege the folks that keep this great country of ours safe.

Definitely a show of appreciation.

I will have to let my neighbor know about this (He is an Elgin, Ill firefighter who volunteered and went to Ground Zero to help in the efforts).

Being a police officer i think offering a days worth of free admission is a very nice and heartfelt offer from the park and to expect any more than that would just be greedy IMHO.

I personally think this is a GREAT idea, but should extend it over a couple days, that way say like local police can go, but obviously they all cant go on the same day. So have a couple days.

But for the US Armed Forces, does that include family? Because my brother is currently in the US Marine Corps. And my dad is retired Navy. And, I am signing up for the Marines on June 1. But wont go for another year. Does that make me eligible to go for free?

No problem. Anyone who is eligible but can't come on May 27, just needs to email or call me and we'll give them tickets for another day.

>But for the US Armed Forces, does that include family?

It's my understanding that immediate family members of members of the miltary (spouse, children) also carry military IDs. If the member of the military is unable to attend, the spouse may show his or her ID and receive two tickets for Heroes Day.

This is for current members of the military (plus police, firefighters and EMTs). Retired and future members are certainly welcome to attend, but only current members will receive the two free tickets.

Bless you for your future service to our country!

What Can I say: I love HW and everyone there. They just make everything look small in light of all the events in the world but when they open there hearts to the hero's day that makes them even better. Hope to see everyone at SRM02 this year, not one day but TWO. If any of you haven't been to HW it is a must. Two great coasters, and park plus all the soda's you can drink, what a country!

Awsome. Not only is this way cool of HW, but obviously its also good PR. Why don't more parks do things like this?

Americana is opening in 2002 and needs your support as many company picnics are already schedualed for someplace else, Indivdual visits are very improtant to the parks survival.

Alister Smithe & Alf is cool - You both seem that what HW is doing just isn't good enough since its "only" one day. What has SF or Paramount done, or any other park? I think Busch had a free day at the end of last year but I guess that isn't good enough either.

A park gives something back and people still complain that its not enough!!!

Never in my life have I seen ANY company - automotive, food service, banks, stores, ANYthing - that cares more about its customers than Holiday World.

CEOs should take a look at HW.... it's a textbook on how to run a successful company, make a profit, and make every single person happy.

Zimm...I think it is awesome that they have a free day to these people. But I am just saying, what about the Police officers and such who can not get off of work, because they have to be protecting us.

ALF, did you read Paula's (Raven Maven) post above? She stated:

"Anyone who is eligible but can't come on May 27, just needs to email or call me and we'll give them tickets for another day. "

I know this, but Zimm was referring to my post about how it should be over several days (before Paula posted) and I was explaining to him why I thought it should be more than one day. But in actuality I think tickets for another day is better, because if it was say 2 days, someone could easily go both days.
