Fun Spot Up- Date

The latest issue of Amusement Business states that Fun Spot in Angola IN will open without their top four thrill rides, The Afterburner, Zyklon, Bayren Curve & Troika. It also states that the owner has removed them from the park and hopes to sell them before the season begins. Two of the rides were sold at a Norton Auction April 23rd.

This is false!!! I just got off the phone with the park's manager, who while talking to me, looked out his window and saw a maintenance man working on the Afterburner's lift hill. He assures me that all the rides are still property of the Trine family (who own the park) and they are still in the park.

Yeah, Rideman filled us in with this info about a month or two ago. I'm glad the auction didn't go high enough for them to sell.

By the way, what exactly is the lift hill of Afterburner? ;)

CPgenius, you're correct in that someone filled us in on the (non) outcome of the auction, but you are at least partlly mistaken: I don't remember who it was, but it wasn't me.

Also note that the Afterburner does NOT have a lift hill! Remember this is an Arrow launched loop that makes you climb 50 feet to board. If only they would fix the elevator.....

Don't hold your breath for the elevator. It has been scrapped and disposed of, only the blue framework for the shaft is left at the park. BTW, you'll nead your breath for the stairs.

Doesn't Fun Spot (and the other two or three parks that still have Arrow Launch Loops) have an obligation to make their park (and rides) ADA complaint?

In other words without the elevator, how would a wheelchair rider access the loading platform. And on that note has SFEG, Frontier City, or Camden Park installed elevators on their Launch Loops?

Another reminder of how times have changed, back when the Arrow Launch Loop was developed they only installed an elevator on the 'show model' so that high paying clients would not have to climb the stairs, had that ride been developed today (or if anymore were manufactured) either Arrow or the park would be obligated to install an elevator for special needs guests.

I know nobody would want a new one, but I wonder if Arrow would make a new one if somebody did.

No, Sidewinder at SFEG does not have an elevator.

There are currently 11 coasters with the name Batman, 8 with the name Superman and 22 with the name Boomerang. Batman and Superman: The Ultimate Chiller Knight Flight Krypton Escape Ride.

Frontier City doesn't have an elevator, but they do have less steps. They only have about half the steps it had when it was at SFGAd. At FC, they have wooden ramps leading up to/away from it, but there's still about 3 or 4 flights of staris.

To bad this park is struggling like it is. Maybe some investors will step in and save it and add some flat rides and rollercoasters. I think though it has bad location. none of the parks in indiana really truly thrive like they could because they aren't by any big cities. If some one was to build a themepark near indy they could easily bring in millions of people if they could hold that many.

Yeah...Indiana Beach is like in the middle of no-where...or maybe I'm to used to the back roads, getting there ;)

Dave, there is no obligation to make compliant an existing structure. If the coaster were remodelled AND the coaster is capable of handling a rider who can't walk up the stairs, then it would be necessary to make it accessible. But so long as it remains more or less unchanged, there is no requirement to make it accessible.

IF indiana beach was near indianapolis it would totally be bombed out every day. But the thing is indiana beach is 75 years old and at that time I think the local area and lake shafer was rather large. Funpspot is just advantaged on local population. IT not a big amusement place with a lot of rides so it does not drawl in a lot of tourist if any at all. The guest that do attend are usually local people. I think if another invester came in with a good twenty million and spent a couple million on a cci , and bought a good steel coaster with some flat rides they would drawl in a lot of money. I think indiana beach's problem is they don't advertise often enough. They do some what but not big enough. If they were to do brodcast and put it on the news or other popular television it would boost gp.
