Magnum is 205 feet high.  It has a 194' 8" drop.  Magnum was the first US coaster to pass the 200 foot mark.  I mean, come on... that's Roller Coasters 101!

give it a break man! it's NOT a hyper, so what else would you call it? a ROLLERCOASTER would do, but enthusiast would classify it as a Junior Hyper because that's what it is... same with ExPedition GeForce... it's not truley a hyper coaster, but has the same elements, minus the height, of what a Hyper Coaster does.... so just get over it and don't call it anything if you don't want to....

Sweet!  I have a friend that lives in Holland that has been bugging me for the last five years to go over and visit him.  I was planning on doing so this summer, and now I even have a bonus reason.  Not that I am flying to the other side of the world just to ride a coaster though.......  :)

Yes, a Dutchie I am. And seeing what European parks are erecting at this moment, I think I'm very fortunate. Look at Europapark's Silver star for example... That critter is even slightly bigger than Nitro! I'm also preparing for Air, and another coaster that's never mentioned but deserves way more attention --> Universal studios Port Aventura at Benidorm has the most magnificent B&M ride, Dragon Kahn. Just look at the first loop of that monster.

I've always looked at my American friends with envy (no hard feelings) But at this time, I'm proud to live in Europe!

Well, I suppose we can call a coaster what ever we like then.  That being the case, I think I will start referring to Knoebels High Speed Thrill Coaster as a "Really Junior Kiddie Tiny Hyper Coaster"  (as my one signature says).

Rediculous, I know... but then again, so is the thought of having to work a label into everything... like calling a 150foot coaster a "Junior" anything.

would the phrase "non-inverting" mean anything, or actually, I kinda like the term "speed coaster".  These reflect the style of coaster, without going into all the "stuff" about height...

It's pretty simple, really.  The term junior hypercoaster was dubbed for enthusiasts.  When a new steel coaster is announced, and there is no layout to be found, enthusiasts rely on descriptive terms like hypercoaster, gigacoaster, inverted, and even floorless to give a mental picture of the coaster's style.  The term junior hypercoaster simply gives enthusiasts a mental image of the style: a coaster like Magnum or Superman RoS, with huge swooping hills, fast turnarounds, and plenty of airtime.  The term also tells you that it will not reach the 200 foot mark.  It has nothing to do with being "junior" sized... it just gives you a classification.

WOW! my two favorite COLORS! I think finally somebody is building a roller coaster that is just a roller coaster. Unlike most times when they just want to build them bigger and bigger and bigger, any-who. The ride looks really, really nice and It's a shame they're building it so far away. Oh yeah, about the whole let's call it what thing, Call it whatever you want to call it.

Anyways, I think it is sort of stupid that a coaster 150 ft tall is called junior. My home park (PCW) calls the coasters they have under 100 ft extreme! If we got a 150 ft high coaster it would be called an ultra intense granddaddy coaster, not a junior!

BTW, does anybody have links to more info about this coaster?

i always wanted to go to the usa to ride great coasters (still want to, to go on X) but Europe is Finally getting some of the coasters that the usa is enjoying a long time already
going to Alton towers for the summer holidays to get a little taste of what the Usa is having

sad is'nt it, flying dutchman rollercoaster... Holland does'nt have on, WE INVENTED IT!!!)

Madhollander, i'm not Dutch or Belgian, i'm Canadian! My backround is Dutch though, and a lot of my relatives live in the Netherlands, some even in Flevoland ;)

I'm surprised SFH isnt getting a flying Dutchmen instead of this junior' hyper, but they probably will in the future.
