IAAPA 2001: S&S has six new Insane rides in store for next year

Posted Thursday, November 15, 2001 9:33 AM | Contributed by Jeff

S&S Power said they are installing six more of the "Absolutely Insane" rides in the coming year. The first three were installed at Six Flags Magic Mountain, Knott's Berry Farm and Cedar Point.

CoasterBuzz will post an exclusive interview with S&S chief Stan Checketts later this week.

Sounds good, every theme park should have one of these creations.

But I wonder how rough they will become over time?

S&S does have a good relationship with Cedar Fair.

It sure looks like it now that all of the Cedar Fair parks (bar the newly purchased Michigans Adventure and of course Camp Snoopy) have at least one of S+S's Creations

Given the floating cable-suspended nature of the ride, I don't think "rough" will ever really come into play.

Well, here's 2 that I know about:

SFDL and SFGAdv

Notice that this year, they had the FunTime model...these were used as trial runs to see how the public reacted to the type of ride.  Next year, they will be gone and an S&S model will be in their place.

Well, it's not a big S&S creation, but Michigan's Adventure does have a Frog Hopper.

A S&S drop tower or any freefall experience is just what Lake Compounce needs!

(Doesn't Elitch Gardens already have a Drop Tower?)

One thing I wan't to add,  just like hypers in the 20th Century, Air Thrust 2000's are one of the most extreme things we've seen,  it just seems like a TA2K is too extreme for a park collection that hasn't had a ground breaking attraction, it's like taking Conneaut Lake and adding a giga coaster, but what better the time to start then now!  What I'm saying is does it seem wrong or odd to take an extreme ride to a small park with a VERY small coaster collection?

I guess it's not always bad, it worked for Six Flags New England and Kennywood, but it seems better to open up with a good woodie from CCI or a small looper from Venkoma(like KBF, Holiday World, Lake Compounce, and Michigan Adventure)

I heard about a rumor that Elitch Gardens might get an S&S ride instead of a coaster.

Wasn't PGA rumored to get something called "Complete Insanity"?

I wonder if any parks are planning TA2K rides for next year given all the problems the first two have experienced.

There were rumors floating around about Great Escape receiving some ride from S&S. i wonder if they'll end up with one of these new rides, or just a set of Drop Towers if that rumor turns out to be valid

Didn't Cedar Point already have two drop rides (including one with four towers) before they installed their S&S?

Same with KBF they already had Supreme Scream.  I have rode the one at KBF and absolutley loved the Big Bang more than Big Bang Plus and would love to see more of these made.
