Six Flags Superhero coaster names
First of all, don't superheroes mainly appeal to 10 year old little boys? The use of these superhero names for coasters shows a huge lack of creativity in their marketing dept. Not only are out of theme at some of their parks (Batman in Yankee Harbor), its really bad that they use the same name over and over and over, and for different kinds of coasters (batman inverted, batman lim, batman floorless, superman hyper, superman floorless, superman impluse, superman reverse freefall). The worst example is at Great Adventure. 2 coasters named after Batman in the same park.
On the other hand they have come up with some great names recently like the Boss and Nitro, that say it all. Whoever named these coasters should be naming all their coaster. Enough little kid superhero names!

I think the superhero names only work if the ride is themed well. For instance - when Batman opened at SFGAM it was awesome. Nothing like that had been done. Then you look at Superman: Ultimate Escape - no themeing at all. At least Superman: The Escape has the Fortress of Solitude to walk through. I personally love the superhero attractions if they have point to them. A themed station and queue line are a must for these types of rides. If they aren't going to put forth the effort to theme the attraction around the superhero, then there isn't a point. They might have just called it "Bill's Wild Ride" or something. I like the diversity of ride names at the parks but the Six Flags chain will never get away from this. If I owned a company with multiple rides of the same design, I would do the same thing. It just makes sense financially.

It isn't so much the lack of originality. It's that they are named after superheros.
Personally, I'd prefer 12 "Bill's Wild Ride" over 12 "Batman."

Since it was in a themed environment, I can go along with the first "Batman: The Ride"... however when more and more Batman themed rides arrived it bugged me. The same with "Superman: Ride of Steel" etc etc etc. I've heard of enough Batmen, Supermen, Jokers, etc.
I do not lump IOA into this though. They do have Spiderman, Hulk, and Dr.Doom (along with Popeye, Dudly Do Right, Cat in the Hat, etc). However, these only appear at one location and are unique rides. Only when they start popping up at other Universal properties on similar rides will IOA be included in this count.
Personally, I like original names better than carbon copied superhero names.

They play music on a bunch of rides. If that is what they were trying to get across as themeing they missed the boat on that one. I do like music in stations and queue lines. SUE could have been awesome if themed right.
I think that the Batman: The Ride will go away since almost every Six Flags park has an inverted of some type.
I love original named coasters. It makes them stand out from any other coaster.

The reason why there are so many Batmen is WB won't give up making movie sequels. Batman 5 is in pre-production. Enough is enough! I guess they just want $$$. I've been waiting for a Matrix themed coaster. Then on the other hand, no way if it gets the same treatment.
Remember it is all pretty much about the GP, they don't care if all coasters have the same name so long as there is one near where they live. I know it sucks, it could be worse, there could be no coasters at all w/o them!

Maybe it was my first experience with the Superhero thing, but I loved the theming at SFWoA. Batman was slick. The Batmobile, Gotham City, and the music.....plus, what a wonderful ride. They should name "G's", "Gggeeeesssshhhh" after this ride, since I felt like floating along the track. And how do you actually theme a LIM invert like Superman? Other than music, I don't see how you do it!?!? How about hanging a few fake clouds next to the spiral, or covering the station in "Daily Planet" garb?!?!
Other than this, I'm tired of the same usage of names for these rides, too...but I'm not tired of the theming...actually, I enjoy it. Since my homepark, CP, doesn't care much for theming, I really enjoy SF's attempt at it...

You mean like the carbon copy Earthquake, Kong, Jaws, Back to the Future and Jurrasic Park attractions for in both Florida and California?
Anyway, I'm not a 10 year old boy, but I enjoy the cartoon themes. I mean the first B:TR themeing was just so over the top as to dang near be revolutionary at the time. In fact, my only rag on the superheroes it that it needs to be *EXPANDED*. I mean there is a hyper or LIM coaster *begging* to be dubbed "The Flash", a Dumbo type ride pleading to be Wonder Woman's Invisible Jet, and a water ride imporing to be Aquaman. The only problem with the superheroes is that SFI has gotten a little hung up on Superman and Batman. Understandably, they are the most popular, but still.
And as an alternate I offer some of the rides that exist aside from comics.
Too many 'Cyclones' to count.
Silver Streak, Mean Streak, Blue Streak *yawn*
Judge Roy Scream (who?!?!?)
Willard's Whizzer (again, who?!?!?)
Just plain 'Coaster'.

Universal in California and Florida have an entire continent between them.
SF Darien Lake, New England, America are all alot closer to each with their "Superman: Ride of Steel". If one would appear on the east coast and one on the west coast, then it would not be so bad.
Also, while a ride based on a giant gorilla on the loose in NYC has a limited range of names (like... "King Kong") available, a large coaster could be named really anything.
As far as Cyclone's...
They were once easy to keep track of...
Coney Island Cyclone, Riverside Cyclone,
Williams Grove Cyclone etc. And most are still referred to in those ways... with the exceptions of Riverside Cyclone. Old Riverside park has been Six Flags-ized, so the name is now just a generic Cyclone. Oh well, at least they were not compelled to rename it after some super hero.

The thing is though, for all intents and purposes, SFNE, SFDL, and SFA might as well be on different PLANETS!! Dont you realize that the average guest has no idea that there is another S:ROS aside from their local one.

Theme is good when it goes beyond a stupid name. At SFO we got a Superman with some logos and a Batman with a Daily Planet globe and a flat facade for the station. Whoopie! The Superman Tool Sheds(TM) on the Rides of Steel are even more embarrassing.
Now the Batman at SFGAm... that's what I'm talking about. The station is the freakin' Bat Cave. How cool is that? The queue even sets a mood.

Nope, got nothing against comic themes. Liked Hulk, Spiderman and Dudley Do-Right at IOA (and Toon Lagoon in general), but when those same rides start popping up all over the place then it will start to get a bit tedious.
I think Jeff hit it right... if you want to theme, then theme... just don't slap a name on the station and a fancy paint job on the coaster.

When I rode Batman Knight Flight I thought, "For just a few bucks more, they could have themed the inside of the station to match the Gotham City exterior and really improves the overall impression."

A superhero ride (not IOA) with a good theme? Wow, I never knew one existed.

There are currently 11 coasters with the name Batman, 8 with the name Superman and 22 with the name Boomerang. Batman and Superman: The Ultimate Chiller Knight Flight Krypton Escape Ride.
