Anyone have an obsession for tall structures??
We stayed in a hotel room in Boston with a great view from around the 20th floor. I would always think that this is around the height of the Tower Of Doom. That was fun.

My grandparents have an apartment on the 11th floor & when I was little, thought that was pretty high up!
There are a couple of 600ft TV Masts that look like MF's flared lifthill supports. I've often imagined them as supports for a gargantuan coaster. I can dream can't I??
Then there is the 1,000ft tall Centrepoint Tower, oh you guessed what I was about to say!

Okay, I'd say we're all a little obsessed here aren't we... ;) And that's a good thing, too! I don't usually relate coasters to building heights, but I love all tall things and heights! I'll stand on the edge of a 200 foot cliff over a stone quarry (limestone pond, now, 85+ feet deep) with no qualms.

I'm actually afraid of heights. I barely go up into tall buildings unless I have to. People always ask me why I go on Supreme Scream, and I tell them that not only is it a way of facing my fears, but I know that soon I will be falling from that height, and not be up there too long. If it ever got stuck, I'd probably die. :)
I am obsessed with all large engineering feats (Dams, Bridges, Skyscrapers, Freeways, Tunnels) I find it all fascinating. I hope they build a building that is taller than the Petronas Towers soon.
Speaking of which, they need to install "express" elevators with shoulder harnesses on some of these buildings (if you know what I mean). :)

I am also affraid of heights. I can ride any ride or coaster, but I cannot walk close to and edge of a tall building, or near the side of a cliff. I am very obsessed with anything that has a structure. Buildings, bridges, and odly shapped monuments/buildings. And then there's roller coasters. I allways watch the track design and the structure design, and try to figure out how many feet a part of a ride is, and all stuff like. I don't know why, I just am.

I not only love roller coasters but I also love skyscrapers. There are times I imagine a coaster train getting ready to drop off the top of the some of the downtown towers here in Cleveland.

Come to think of it, yeah. In addition to roller coasters, I like tall buildings, big ships, big bridges, and the like. I think one of the coolest things to see would be a tidal wave crashing into land (preferably uninhabited land, and preferably from a helicopter) because of the sheer size and power. Okay, I'm deeply nuts.

Yup, you're deeply nuts. Just kidding. Did you just watch the movie 'Deep Impact'?? :)
Sydney Harbour Bridge is 443ft tall & you can climb it for about $50. I did & the view is awesome. A coaster of that height would be a massive rush! STE is almost as tall. BTW the deck is 161ft off the water = BKF.
There is a seacliff up north about 320ft tall = SD2K!
Oh, why can't they use the Gateway in St Louis as a 656ft tall Skycoaster!!

Big structures do not awe me. Maybe it's because I've lived near downtown Chicago for a long time. I used to visit my aunt's job on the 65th floor of the Amoco Building every Friday. I was scared to look out the window. I still get nervous when I visit the top of the Sears Tower or John Hancock building. The one thing that amazes me is that all the other buildings in downtown seem to dissapear the farther you stray away from it. After a large of miles, you can only see the Sears Tower, John Hancock and a small part of the Amoco Building. On a related note, downtown Chicago is not looking the way it used to these days. The last time I visited, I counted 10 hotel, condo, or office complexes being constructed. And that was just at the north end of downtown. 7 of those complexes were over 30 stories. At least they are being built in regards to Chicago's architectual significance, unlike the big, black, rectangular monoliths of New York.
I used to really get my rocks off on tall buildings. (Well, not literally, but you know.) I loved seeing pictures, reading about them, learning what the tallest were, etc.
And now I do that with coasters!

I also always compare the heights of buildings to coasters. Everytime I'm on my way to SFStL, and I drive by the Arch in St. Louis, I think about how MF is half the height, and I think about how cool it would be to ride down the side of the Arch. I have weird thoughts.:) And I also am very afraid of heights, but no rides of any kind bother me when I'm up high. In fact, I LOVE being up on a high thrill ride...my fear of heights just adds to the thrill.

I can't believe I've never ridden a Hypercoaster (Manhattan Express is not quite a true Hyper). The closest I can get to riding one is to take the elevator to the 20th floor of any building. :( It's annoying that there are so many 20 story & over buildings & nowhere as many Hypers. To think a big builing is worth many Hypers!
