ACEr incident.
I visited PKI on 5-12 (Trip report in forum). I had rode SOB in the morning and thought that is was smooth. Later at the end of the day I rode it again and thought that is was rougher yet still fun. I had seen this guy with coaster patches on his backpack while waiting, and he ended up riding on the same train as me. I heard him and his friends talking about how rough it was and I even heard his friend say that "it sucked." I asked the backpack guy if he had rode it before and he said no. I then told him that it was smoother in the morning and much more enjoyable. He said something along the lines that they spent so much money on the ride and it wasn't that great. His friend said that he was going again on Sunday and that he would ride it again in the morning.
My question has anyone else had an incident with American COASTER ENTHUSIASTS before because if the were true enthusiasts they would like all coasters rough or smooth.
I understand that you can't like them all, but to get off the ride and to just say "It Sucked!" is not very good way of showing that you're and enthusiast, in my opinon.
Although the guy with the back pack said it better, and was very nice.

If you're a fan of anything, does that mean that you have to like absolutly everything associated with it? Like, if you enjoy baseball, do you have to think that every player is as good as every other? True, I think there are probably a lot of Acers that are so only because they go frequently and can afford the dues, but aren't so appreciative of every coaster. But to each his own - I'm sure I'll come across rides that I don't like. In fact, I have, and I've been to one park (here to remain nameless) that I think is so poorly laid out that it should be razed completely and redone, but I still go because I love all coasters (so far)! Although I would never have the nerve to say something to that effect within earshot of others, that's just rude. Oh well.

I've been with ACE a few years now, and all the people I've met have different likes and dislikes, but are with out question, are avid enthusiasts.
• I was surprised last year by Shivering Timbers. (awesome airtime)
• Got engaged on BoulderDash on opening day.
• Seventy rides in one day on Excalibur.
• Met first year ACEr's at PKI, became friends, and we were all disappointed by the tooth-jarring drops and elated by the smoothness of the loop.
• Got on Phoenix for the first time.
• Rode Steel Phantom in the last of it's days, and was able to ride The Racer and Jack Rabbit for the first time. (closed when I visited the year before)
• Visited IOA and met Hulk and Fire & Ice.
• Rock'n'Rollercoastered a few times and dropped on Tower of Terror.
Was lucky to fit in a lot of coastering.
I enjoyed all the time spent, met a lot of nice people, but I can't say I was enthused by every coaster I rode, just most of them.

I understand what you mean CrystalKat. I didn't really explain myself when I said that you should like all coasters.
What I ment was that you should try to find out what is good about it, more than dwell on the bad things. Lke SOB where it is rough as I thought, I tend to think about all the good things like, the great view, how cool the steepness of the lift is, the power that it has, the length and mammoth size, and finally the loop. There are a few coasters out there that I don't care for, but I don't think that is should be torn down (nothing against you CrystalKat). I mean what I don't like someone might.
Also nothing against all you ACE members I'm sure there are a lot more that are very nice.

What's really a TRUE enthusiast? Is someone going to love a ride that gives them back or neck pain and completely ruins the entire coasting experience for them because it's rough? Not likely, no matter how much of a coaster lover they are. Doesn't mean they aren't being enthusiasts, just being objective to said experience. Most ACE members I know, including myself, are vocal about coasters they don't like, but aren't being obnoxious about it or anything. If you don't like something, it's ok. You don't have to like every coaster you go on to be an enthusiast. There are going to be rides you absolutely loathe and ones that will keep you coming back for more. I loathe Viper at SFMM and Kong at SFMW, to name a few, but I still love the fact that they are there for others to experience. I won't ever ride them again because they've beat the heck out of me, but other people like them and they are coasters, so they hold a special place. I still hate the rides. Just my opinion on the matter. Anyways, peace. :)

Dude, all of us are coaster enthusiasts, and we all have opinions. Lots of people don't like SOB, and just because they are ACErs doesn't mean that they should keep that to themselves. Its not like being an ACE member is some sort of secret priveledge or something.

Yeah, I disagree with the notion that enthusiasts by definition cannot hold negative opinions about something, whether that something is coasters or or the Chicago Cubs. Especially when I'm wearing an ACE t-shirt, I try to watch what I say; if I don't like a coaster I'll say, though in hopefully a more refined manner than it "sucked." Don't judge all ACErs by one guy.

For example, Grizzly (PGA) is not the greatest coaster in the world, but I would much rather be riding it than be at school.;)
I try to be very positive about every coaster I ride. One of my hobbies is riding roller coasters, because they are fun.

I couldn't have said it any better myself, PT300. That's the problem with a fair number of enthusiasts. They have an idea of their favorites and any coasters not in that group "suck" regardless of positive aspects. Each coaster should be appreciated for what they are and should not be badmouthed for what they're not. Once I adopted that mindset, I started to enjoy different parks and coasters a whole lot more.

One prime example of an ACEer ruining a park's relation would be the Ultra Twister media day at SFAW quite a while ago. Of course, the ACEer told the news press the reason it came here was that someone had died on it. SFAW was, understandably, pretty steamed and hasn't had any ACE events since!

Hmmmm. Sounds like that may have been a former troll at RRC. No wonder that guy has been so peaved at ACE recently, not to mention everyone elese. As for the snotty attitude displayed by some so-called enthusiasts, I just don't let it ruin my good time. I have learned to love each park for its streangths, not to go looking for every little weakness.:)

Hi, my name is Eric, and I am a coaster junkie.
But in the same breath, if something sucks, it just does! I have absolutely no qualms about telling anyone my honest opinion of a ride...if I am asked. I mean, I'm sure that every coaster out there is enjoyable to someone but it doesnt have to be enjoyable to me. I'll give an example, I have absolutely no intent of EVER riding Lunch Eraser (I mean Mind Eraser) @ SFWoA again. It Sucked! Can I be more specific about what I didnt like. I probably could, but does anyone really care to hear all that? Probably not. So I just keep my comments brief.

Ok, I can see that some of you go along with this guys view and some don't, but the peeople that think a coaster sucks did you go back and try it again. It might not be as bad like a different time of the day or in a different seat. I really don't think you can base a ride on one ride.
I'm not trying to start a fight, but just wondering.
Also, I don't really care for Corkscrew, but I wouldn't say it sucks becuase I rode near the front, middle, and back. While the front hurt me on the second hill and the back bangs my head around in the corkscrews, the middle provides a quite enjoyable ride.

FTF: I can kinda see what you are getting at, but I'm pretty good at knowing what I like and what I dont. If I taste something nasty (say like Cod Liver Oil) I wont try it again thinking "Hey, it may be good this time". If it sucks, it sucks. If it sucks the first time, I expect it will suck the second, third etc. I dont watch Godzilla (w/ Matthew Broderick) over and over. I saw it once, it sucked and I wont waste my time again. Also, against the common 'enthusiast' thought pattern, I dont buy the whole 'different personality' bit of coasters. I think it's all in the head of the rider. A good ride (like Legend, Kraken, and Millie) should be good in any seat. If its not, I see nothing wrong with saying it sucks. Why not? Even life sucks sometimes!

If you can give a positive reaction based on just one ride, why not a negative? I only rode Montu once, but I know I liked it better than any other inverted I've ridden. Is now that opinion invalid? Just wondering about your position.

I don't mind someone giving me their honest opinion of a coaster, but when they don't shut up, and just keep giving the same opinion every time the subject is brought up, I get very annoyed. I have a good friend who can't stand Stealth at PGA. I don't think the coaster is all that great, but I still enjoy riding it. He insists on bashing it every time someone mentions it. Ok it's great you don't like the ride, now get over it and let other people enjoy it.
I see your point with the positve response on one ride 2Hostyl, I am guilty of that. I don't know I guess we all have our different opinions on these kinds of things. I usually try to give a ride a second chance, but I have liked every coaster that I have been on. Sure I haven't liked them equally, but they all offer something in my opinion.
