Woman dies following ride on Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain (UPDATED)

Wow, that is creepy. I'll be 28 next month. This reminds me of those weird things where a kid is playing basketball in high school or college and dies right out on the floor. Those kinds of things are weird when they happen to young people.

While my sympathies go out to the family, I hope this doesn't revive the whole debate about whether or not the rides are safe for people in a general sense.

That is sad. Anything can happen at anytime. You never know when the good man above decides that it is your time to go. The story doesnt reveal the womans age or health condition(medical history) so I guess we will have to wait for a follow up story.

This is truly a shame. I'm sure we all express our deepest condolences to the womans family. This is not the first time (if it is heart failure) that this kind of thing has happened. That being said, you can die of heart failure watching television as well. Lets hope this will not be used by all the thrill bashers around the country. I'm 40 and just recently rode Nitro and Millenium Force......still tickin. Still...there are no guarantees.

I just saw the news on channel 11 FOX LA and they said that she was 28 years old! Pretty young. They said she was healthy at the time. An autopsy has to be done.

A bunch of my friends who just went on a field trip with my class to Magic Mountain. We are all in the 10th grade. Every one of my friends said, At the end of the Goliath Ride there is a "curly q" turn, and their vision faded as they went through it and felt light headed like they were going to pass out, I wonder if that has anything to do with it...

Yeah, that happened to me also. It might be possible that it had something to do with that but I'm not sure.

This is tragic beyond words. Is there any word on wether or not they'll be closing Goliath? And what abour Titan, Goliath's sister coaster at SFOT, will it be closed as well.

I hope they don't kill the ride with brakes now to make it less intense.

I was just thinking the same thing... I really don't hope that MM would do that, cuz it would make the ride soo much less intense. It would be a hole different experince without the centrifuge at the end...

This is some freaky stuff. I guess you never really know when your going to go..... I feel sorry for that family with what there going through right now.

I doubt the old debate over if the rides are safe or not comes back b/c in the quote from the police says there was not malfunction of the ride. I think that people will leave it well alone (i hope)

But, if a ride is that intense and hits that q turn at high speeds they are going to have to. I don't like seeing parks add break trims to intense rollercoasters but sometimes it is a better thing.
Saftey comes first and should always. If there is a death due to the cause of the coaster sixflags and magic mountains could get sued. We all Know how much lawsuits can hurt parks.

Woah,that really sucks..they wont close goliath down..i just got on it last night,i think you have to be very very WEAK to die on a ride like that,so maybe she did have other health problems?..like this one time i was at DCA getting on the wild mouse and this stupid lady had a broken neck and she got on!!

Well, maybe 5 G's is a bit much for the average Jane or Joe. Makes ya wonder if the industry needs to peal off a bit. Strange she just died live that. Wonder if something was in the blood?
