Guinness says Millennium Force and Steel Dragon are inches apart

That's quite amazing! I wonder if 6 decimeters really adds to the thrill? ;)

Too bad Millennium Force isn't just a few feet taller!

What is that 60cm? Which is, if my calculations are correct, approx. 23.6 inches! That is almost 2 feet. That means that SD is about 312ft. ohh that makes a whole lotta difference! NOT!!!! HA! MFORCE RULES!

1 foot, 8 inches. Not bad. Not bad at all. Now if there was only a way to make the Millenium Force just a weeee bit taller (ie: dig a hole in the ground where the lift is & measure it from there! :-)... then Cedar Point could capture at least one title back!

Either way, records or no records, Cedar Point will always be a great park, with great rides, a pleasant atmosphere, friendly & caring staff, and very clean overall. I'll take those park qualities over record sizes or amounts anytime.

I dont see the comperosan,i see MF being compared to Fuijiama,but not to Steel Dragon?Where is it?

Didn't they say that officially MF is exactly 311 feet as well? They did an official measurement, and I'm pretty sure they finalized it at 311 feet, 93MPH. Am I hallucinating, or is an 8 inch difference?

I'm pretty sure I'm not going to be anywhere near Japan for quite some time, so frankly, I really don't care exactly how tall Steel Dragon is. All's I need to know is that it's bigger than Millennium Force. (You know, just in case I ever "Want To Be A Millionaire.")

Plus, when I rode it, Millennium Force was still the tallest in the world. I'll sleep easier at night knowing that. ;)

The one aspect that people forget is that MF was the FIRST continuous circuit coaster to break the 300 foot mark. SD2K may be taller but according to guiness, its only 1 foot 8 inches taller than MF.

Don't forget, coaster height is measured from station level to the highest point...

Well MF was measured at 310ft 11in and if SD is 311ft 8in. Then SD is only 9in taller.

If CP did some retrack work on MF, to lower the station 2-3ft. They would have the record only by using about 500,000 or so bucks! Use the money left over after painting Raptor and do that. There's your sollution.

Back in the early Eighties I worked at a stereo store. We always had certain people who came in and bought expensive stereo equipment based on which had the best specifications printed in the owners manual. They never really cared to much to actually listen to the equipment before determining which one they wanted.

I know bragging rights are important. And it has to be tough for Cedar Point to have dropped $25 million in to a record breaker and have it topped by a lousy foot and a half (or 1/2 of 1%) in height within months of completion.

Be proud of MF because it is a great ride, not because of its height relative to other rides.

Taller does NOT always equal better. IMHO SFNE's S:ROS blows away MF and Goliath and I can think of a few dozen smaller coasters that I'd rather ride then SOB, Mean Streak, Herc, and Rattler.

For example, anyone who's ridden Holiday World's Raven, which has a lift of about 80 feet and a first frop of about 100 feet, can attest to the fact that its one hell of a powerhouse!

Or look at the larger B&M Stand-ups, Chang, Mantis, and Riddler. Riddler, the largest, is also the tamest and while fun is, IMHO, most boring of the three. Mantis is the smaller and more intense. Chang is a good middle ground. Which would you rather ride?

Or the inverteds? Montu or Raptor may be people's favorites [mine is Montu] but I don't know anyone who thinks either are actually more intense and disorienting than the smaller Batman clones, who's inversions fly by so fast you don't have time to breathe.

When it comes to coasters size doesn't always equal a better ride.

Basically, all the records controversy is just a large whizzing contest between fans of the involved parks. Even though MF is my favorite steel, I have to agree with Mamoosh that smaller rides are as thrilling or more so than the larger ones.
