how do you figure that SD2000 is only 1' some inches taller than MF but yet SD goes 95mph and MF goes 93. But wait, MF is way steeper than SD2000. Beats me, but who cares, the important thing is that more people will visit CP than that park. Records are meant to be broken. Hey Magnum was once that tallest, but i don;t even think it ranks in the top 10 in height anymore, but it's still considered one of the best if not the rest. Cedar Point will once regain the record in the near future, but for now who cares.
Some of you people are such whiners! Get over it, SD is taller, and there's nothing you can do about it. Some of the posts in this forum are so irritating. We got one person suggesting lowering the station just to make it higher?!?!? How stupid is that. Get over it, I've never seen so many people complain about something so stupid. Plus, who cares if the MF drop is steeper, I rode MF a bunch of times, and I felt that the layout was very dull. Look at Steel Dragon's layout, looks ten times better than MF, but who cares, I'm never gonna ride it, and neither are most of the people on this site, so just be happy with MF.

Kudos to you korn4/8/00, except for the fact that you are somewhat rude to fellow enthusiasts, you do have a valid point. most of these people will never ride SD and besides, in another year, something will be bigger, faster, and probably taller. remember that you are responding to people who enjoy this site for the same reasons you and I do. Some of the suggestions are ridiculous, but people are entitled to say what they wish for and you shouldn't bash them for wishful,although sometimes crazy, thinking.

What is the fascination with rollercoaster height?????? I have gotten to the point where I honestly think it is the quality of the ride that counts more. I bet NOBODY would be able to spot the piddly height difference if they were on the ground looking up at it!

Has anyone ever wondered why B&M hasn't built a 190' 7 inversion steel coaster with absolutely no pacng whatsoever? No. But Arrow has. Viper is not really a favorite looping coaster among anyone. But maybe Medusa is.
Frankly, the only people this really matters to is us. We are pissed because SD2k is taller. Maybe it is, I don't care. It's just a stupid height record. One that will be broken someday. Think of the 97% of Cedar Point's attendance, and how many of them realize it isn't the tallest. Nor is the name 'Millennium' for that matter.

Actually Cynic, from what I hear, B&M did just that, built a 195' 7 inversion steel coaster that has fairly poor pacing. It's called Alpengeist. Jeff has stated numerous times how he felt the timing was a little off (check the recent thread 'Why is Raptor so Good'). And since we are talking about it, Viper's pacing is only a matter of opinion, as is Alpie's.

I think the drop is more important in this case. That may be why SD2K goes a little faster. I too would think that since MF has a steeper drop, it may go faster becuse it could encounter less friction. My Physics skills aren't great, but I will try to explain my theory which could be wrong.
Since SD2K has a flatter drop, the wheels are forced by gravity onto the track more than MF which may result in more friction. The same applies that an object in freefall will experience almost no friction why a object running down a slope will. Since the force is closer to freefall than SD2K, less friction may be encounter.
Also, because it is flatter the total length of track SD2k's drop is longer, so that's more time the wheels will come in contact with the track.
Since friction is minimal, (Only negating a small amount of the coaster's speed)this could only result in a miniscule difference in speed. The big thing is though is that is SD2k's drop is about 3.04 meters longer than MF, it gives gravity more time to accelerate the train.

Joe E., there are other variables to consider when attempting to explain the speed difference, such as, passenger loads, car design, and many others that make the point essentially useless to most. The same can be said of the various opinions presented here about the size difference - useless.
I have lived in Japan and will most likely visit there this year, however, I most likely will not take the chance to ride this monster. Also, let's face it, a good coaster is a good coaster, regardless of height, speed, length, etc., and a bad coaster is just a wet thing your drinks slide off of - nuff said!

I think that the only reason that you guys are complaining, is that you have sort of a super ego thing that america should have the best of everything, and be the best at everything. well, we just have to face the fact that we don't have the absolute tallest ride in the world, and that shouldn't matter because we have a ride that comes pretty close. Personally, i think that you guys all need to get off of the internet, and out riding coasters, because when you get out there riding them, it will remind you that size does not matter, because it is the thrill that counts.

i agree with SFGA_Maniac. I come from london in the uk. in the uk we dont have any real monsters in the way of hight.But as for hi-tec small but still world record braking coasters we have many.

but my favorite coaster in the uk is nemisis at alton towers:
What Alton Towers had installed was the new B & M Suspended Roller coaster, similar to ones seen in the U.S. The major difference between those and Nemesis was that due to the height restrictions, much of the ride was designed to go below ground level, giving it a special quality that none of the others had.
The ride does several barrel rolls, an inline twist and a zero G loop, all in less than a minute of reaching the top of the incline. The ride is built into a large quarried area which means lots of feet very close to rock faces. It is all centred around a large monster, which is said to have resided in the area for thousands of years, and the track was used to cage it down.
This ride is still the best roller coaster on the park, even with a B & M Dive Machine (obliven) just a few hundred yards away. Whatever you do, do not miss your chance to ride Nemesis.
