New England's Superman tops reader survey

Theme Park New England's Reader Survey 2000 was dominated by New England parks. Six Flags New England's Superman: Ride of Steel was not only voted the best roller coaster in New England, but also the best steel coaster in the world. SFNE's Scream! freefall tower tied for the best non-coaster attraction in the world with Islands of Adventure's Amazing Adventures of Spiderman. SFNE itself was voted the best park in New England wrapping up a very impressive showing for the western Massachusetts park. Another regional favorite, Lake Compounce's Boulder Dash, earned the title of the world's best woodie. New England's roller coaster count increased greatly over the last year making it a great region for coaster enthusiasts to visit. We in the region are proud to host some of the world's best roller coasters.

Ive never ridden Superman:Ride of Steel but from what ive heard and read about it, it sounds like it can contend good with Millenium Force. Ive ridden MF and from my standards thats the #1 steel coaster on the planet. Ive been on lots of coasters and no coaster that ive been on can contend with MF. But ill be sure to get a trip up to SFNE next season, then ill really find out which is better.

[hostility removed -j]If youve ridden MF you have to know that it has airtime and g-forces, and plenty of both of them. The third hill on MF is airtime all the way down. And as for the G-forces, every single one of the over-banked turns has g-forces. You had to have noticed that while you were riding it.

I totally disagree. When I rode the relatively short Fabbri drop tower at IAAPA I was blown away, and found it to be better than any S&S tower I had been on.

i didn't say NO airtime, i said not A LOT. I said it like that because i knew people would be picking it apart. My point is that if you want a lot of in your face airtime, MF isn't the BEST place to look for it. Many people claim there isn't any airtime, but then i don't think they're trying that hard to find it. Plus some seats are better than others. Personally, i love the third hill and the back of the MF is great on the trip down the first hill. But the island has little to no airtime that i've seen and the hill back doesn't have nearly as much air as no. 3 (but i suspest that the front may have a little more there on the return camel back, but have yet to try it)
If you put a gun to my head and said pick, i pick Magnum for the greater amount of airtime (in all of my experiences).
About the polls, perhaps i didn't clairify myself enough. I agree with Jeff and should have put that fact in, it's somewhat a guide on the opinions about the parks and rides. After doing enough research to make me want to puke, i now know that polls of any sort are a pile of garbage. The numbers can be turned in any which way to represent the opinion of the interpretor (let alone open ended questions like "what's you fav coaster?"). For polls to have any weight in my opinion they have to have the largest, most accurate sample possible. Without fair representation in the polling process, the results will be skewed. So back to the last post, while i find polls pretty useless other than some interesting conversation pieces, the larger and more diverse the sample the greater the weight it holds. And while no poll can poll every person who rides a coaster this summer, none will be anywhere near perfect. Let alone that fact that not all riders ride with the same consistancy (meaning people vote for the rides they've been on). I guess i was just responding to the taunting by Middleman, he pointed to "the other foot" when most other national polls don't even mention SFNE while CP is all over them.

Rollerroller, how can you say that Superman is too short??? According to Ultimate Rollercoaster, the ride time is two and a half minutes! There aren't many coasters out there with a longer ride time. The ride time is cut by the fact that the lift moves extremely quickly, and there is no midcourse block brake to slow the second half of the ride.
Please don't post responses saying Superman sucks when you haven't even ridden it. I havr ridden the virtual ride on CP's website and I don't have to ride it in real life to expierience how long it is. SROS seems so much longer than MF does. MF has way to much sustained speed and the ride is over before you know it.
no comparrison after the first drop on MF the ride is rather uneventful a couple of good moments but nothing compared to AIR on every hill

MF looks more impressive than it realy is but its bark is much bigger than its bite [or lack there of] gotta admit that first drop is very intense.
but MF could never fill the jockstrap of SROS not on its best day.
not being able to wait for the front or back on MF REALLY SUCKS after a wait that long you should have the option to wait longer for a choice seat

I have been on all three Superman Ride of Steel rides at the three Six Flags Parks (New England, Darien Lake and America in Largo, MD). I would have to say that I enjoyed the one in New England the best!!! However, I don't think that it is better than Millenium Force. Sure Superman has maybe more turns and tighter helixes and even a couple of tunnels, but Millenium Force is 300 ft.
That first drop is the best!!! PERIOD!!!! I also rode Steel Dragon too!!! It's nice too!! But Millenium Force and that 80 degree drop is just like no other ride on the planet. With that I look at my top 5 steel coasters as these:
1. Millenium Force
2. Superman Ride of Steel
3. Steel Dragon 2000
4. Apollo's Chariot
5. Goliath

I remember the first year for the Mean Streak. They used to tell you where to sit on that ride as well. This year or the next you will be able to sit where you like. I would believe the best in New England, but not the best in the world.
I also tend to think of the Golden Ticket Awards as being the best in the US not the best in the world. I know that they poll people from outside the country, but doesn't that only account for about 20% of the people polled?
