Could CP go down?

I was reading about old Coney Island. Such a large park (all put together). Now if Coney could go down, could something big like CP ever go out of business? And what about Six Flags? Do you think it could happen?

i doubt cp since they are making it more of a resort which brings in the money(just look at how much disney spends on attractions.) i could see six flags goin down since they dont take good enough care of their rides.

I agree with Robby5150. Who knows what the economy will do, how coaster safety will be, or what other factors may affect the amusement industry, no matter who it is. Global warming could melt the icecaps and CP ends up underwater in another 125 years, who knows. Who ever thought, 100 years ago, that we'd have sqare flat contraptions attached to picture boxes that allow one person to communicate with people from around the world literally in seconds? Who knows!

Doesn't look like it would happen within the next 100 years....CP is making ALL the right decisions, and managing the park perfectly. Plus it's got the best reputation in the world. Ohio doesn't take kindly to SFWOA. The general opinion, is nice rides in a trashy badly run park. And that's the GP's thoughts. I dont see CP falling ANYTIME soon.

Why, is that what you want or something? I for one dont even like to think about it, it's my homepark.

Will it go down? Yes. Just not soon! Coney Island was big in the 20's, but in the 30's, just like everything else, it struggled, and like many things, died... mostly died, anyways. That and a combination of fires, too. Six Flags will go down someday too. But I doubt either will right now. If CP goes down, so does Cedar Fair. Same with Six Flags, so many parks... That means if they have a fire at one, they will hardly feel it. I'm sure they could survive a depression, mabybe they would have to close 2 or 3 parks, but that would be it. The only possible way I can see them going down is:
A. They are bought out by someone else.
B. A huge depression makes a loaf of bread be $1,000,000 or...
C. The CEO of Cedar Fair says "screw it" and blows up all CF parks.

A park doesn't have a 4% drop in attendance in a season due to bad weather after building what's suppose to be the #1 coaster in the world.
Just look at Blackpool Pleasure Beach.You almost always hear about them having bad weather,yet it never seems to effect their attendance.

Due To Any Combinations Of Events, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN...ANY PARK CAN GO DOWN...Attendance For MF Was Not What They Hoped, But Look At How Many Times It Rained Last Year, And The Weather Was Cool...I Will Predict That 2001 Will Be Much Better For CP...I Will Also Say That MF Will Be MORE Popular Here In Her Second Season, Just Like MAGNUM Was...As For CP Going Down Anytime Soon...Not Gonna Happen For Several MAJOR Reasons:

1) Dick Is The "Most Brilliant" Park Executive In The World...(what a great quote!)

2 The Great Reputation CP Has...From Rides To Customer Care (most impt!)..the people know what to expect out of Cedar Point..

3)You Haven't Seen ANYTHING From Cedar Point Yet...The FUTURE Looks Great... :)

Cedar Point would go down if the whole industry went down. Cedar Point is too well run for it to just fold up and close. And the only ways I see the whole industry fall is a huge depression/recession, technologicly obselete, meteorite, or nuclear war. So I'd say it is safe to say as long as the traditional amusement park industry is still alive, Cedar Point will be too.

You can't compare CP to Coney Island. Those were completely different circumstances. Coney Island was right there in NY and suffered numerous problems from gangs and vandalism. Also due to their experimentation with electricity, they had many fires. None of these things could happen at CP because of the technology we have today. We will never see a park wiped out overnight due to a large fire ever again.

When the amusement industry goes down, so does CP.

DirtyVern your mistaken CP had a 4 percent jump in attendance. SFWoA had 42 percent jump in attendance(due to 4 new coasters) but how big could that have been with good weather. Here is a link about jump in attendance figures. Even in bad weather both park's had good year's.

Disneyland adds a new coasrer every 20 years! Look at them! CP will be here for a loooooong time unless the same thing happens that did in to 40's. CP was the first big time park in Ohio and what is there first is what every one loves!

I love how people are already doubting CP just because they didn't give you another coaster this year. Wasn't a record breaking giga-coaster enough? I think we need to stop doubting CP and Six Flags and let them do what they do best, deliver awesome rides.

I'm not doubting CP. I am using them as an example because they are the worlds best, just as Coney Island was. If you read my first post up there you would have read it. As for SF, what if all their stockholders pooled out?

Citing the number of parks Six Flags owns, or the size of the Coney Island complex, as proof of their stability may not be wise. Bob Campau put together the largest department store company in the world back in the 80s, and it drowned in debt. Loews Cineplex put together one of the largest chains of movie theatres ever, and right now they're in bankruptcy court. There are other examples, in all sorts of industries.

Right now, CP is making a lot of good decisions, in terms of building and maintaining their businesses. But CEOs retire, boards change, populations move, and it's hard to say now how CP will be doing in 20-30-40 years. Same with Six Flags.

How do you classify a big time park? Cincy Coney Island was big. Euclid Beach Park had 5 coasters at one time. CP didn't even have more than two coasters at5 any one time in the 50's, while Euclid Beach had 4. Since Kings Island opened up it has had almost as many coasters as CP the entire time.
Six Flags is run very badly. Compared to Cedar Fairs or Busch, Six Flags has the most problems with crowd management and other stuff like that.

It also has to do with the area. Coney is in the Middle of New York City. Not the friendliest place mind you. Cedar is also a resort, so thay have an X amount of dollar coming in through multiple areas besides the front gate.

Six Flags and Cedar Fair are both quality run companies. The only way i can think of for them to go down would be if Disney, as the future overloards of the universe, outlaw the entire Amusment Park business. Then Disney could team up wit co-overloard microsoft to bring the the park to you. Outside of that Cedar Fair has about as much chance of going bust as The Dubya (Mr. Bush) has of being named smartest man alive.
