The drop on Alpengeist

I was looking at some Alpengeist pics today and it has one of the weirdest drops. For those who have ridden it, is it as good as it looks?

The drop is amazing! Especially from the front row. It feels like your going straight into the ground. It's so intense! You have to push out your OTSR so it doesn't lock extra tight. Being 190ft. up on an inverted is a pretty sweet experience.

Definately! It's a great coaster...and I love the "winding down" drop. It also seems like one of the faster B&M's, the loop is a real rush!

Alpengeist is my favorite inverted, and everything about it is pretty damn sweet. The first drop is very different than other B&M's it IS wicked. The cobra roll will remain my favorite element though.

The drop is amazing not only that the whole ride is amazing

The drop is what makes the ride. Its one of the best things about it.

The drop is cool but many enthusiasts including me agree that the vertical loop that dives deeper at the bottom is the coolest part. BTW this is where your picture is taken.

They have braked it a bit. It was great, now it's cool!

Yeah, that drop is amazing.
The first time I went, I was in the back left. It turns to the right, picks up speed, and just falls. You can't see the bottom as you're going down. It feels like it will never end. Ride in the back left your first time and you'll be thrilled.

The speed on that first drop is amazing. At the bottom just before you go into the Immelman, it feels like you are going to scrape the ground, and the positive G's are incredible.

It never fails that I come back into the station with my OTSR way tighter than when I left.

Actually the picture is taken in the ski shack. The drop is as equaly impressive from the back seat.

The back left is about as good as Raptor's back right when it comes to the drop. Try it if you get the chance!

robvia and Jeff both mentioned back outside seats. B&M builds those curving drops frequently (a "trademark"?). I have ridden Alpengeist in that seat. I agree it is among the best. I have seen pics of Raptor, it curves down left, never ridden it tho. So, looks like a great seat on these B&Ms will always be "back, high side" as you take the drop. I will do just that on Talon, back left (in 10 days). Another "can't miss' thrill!

FINALLY! Some POSITIVE words about Alpengeist. It seemed that everyone had something bad to say about it. Just goes to show ya, a large portion of the coaster community isn't happy with anything :-P

Yeah the twisting drops on Talon and Alpie are amazing. I prefer Talon, but Alpie is still one hell of a ride!

That first drop is absolutely amazing. The entire first half of the ride is so disorienting

I have a sentimental attachment to Alpengeist. It was my first inverted coaster and my first B&M. It showed me how great rollercoasters can be. I got off that ride in a complete state of euphoria that didn't dissipate for hours. I haven't been back for a few years but I am trying desperately to get there this summer.
