I thought he was very sincere and he gave it his best shot...it was cute. You gotta go for your dreams or you'll have regrets when you're older.

I'm surprised it wasn't Paul Rubin whoring out to the cameras once again.

Not to be mean but now America thinks that we all look and are like him and that is disturbing to me!

Every group of people has lots of different sizes & types. Hey, he's a big guy. Big in the middle too, but tall. Must be tough, knowing there's going to be some rides you just won't make it into. But he sings better than I could.

The moment he announced he was a member of ACE, I was thinking "Uh-oh, this is isn't going to be a good audition." His breathing was terrible. If someone worked with him on that he'd could get much better, but I don't know if the pitch would work itself out at all.

I think if you put the pitch up on a computer, you'd see major deviations from 440 tuning.

RoarsLoudly, I sort of had the same reaction that you did, but let's count our blessings that it wasn't one of those hardcore ACE guys who have the beat-up t-shirt, vest with multiple pins, etc. So the guy was kind of a dork--that wasn't really important--because as they said he was a nice guy.

Now, if you want to see a audition that's truly painful and awkward, try to find the one of the guy in the second hour (I believe?) who said he learned some singing lessons by reading tips from Christina Augilera. *** Edited 1/18/2008 4:57:59 PM UTC by Intamin Fan***

I honestly after having 2 friends in the top 12 liked this guy... I think with some singing lessons he can do a lot! Very nice guy. Just my two cents.

I don't know if it's because I've been singing since I was 5 but, I don't understand how some of these people can't tell how bad they are. I understand that some people are tone deaf but, all of the ones I've met at least know they can't carry a tune.

^I think you can account it to several different factors:

1. Family members and friends who are afraid to hurt the prospective A.I. feelings.
2. People who deceive themselves in spite of family members and friends who've told them otherwise
3. People looking just to have fun even if they know they have no chance in hell
4. People who are "shower-singers" or people who sing in their car. The shower provides some reverb which the auditions lack, and the car radio is probably turned up louder than the person singing, giving a false sense of correct pitch.

My favorite audition moment ever happened in one of the first few seasons. A guy comes in singing horribly off-pitch like normal, and Simon and Randy are busting out laughing the whole entire time. Every time the guy kept trying to sing, the laughing got worse. I think even Paula got in on it.

The guy was horribly humilated, and he vented his rage in the feedback room later. I felt bad for the guy, but you should have some idea of how bad you are before you enter the room.

You're giving the reality genre too much credit for being real. :)

Well this is usually the 2nd or third trip back to the location. A local cinti guy told of his attempt once in Atlanta. First trip (stadium filled) they just pick those that maybe good or interesting. Second round they bring you back and narrow it down. Then third trip you are in the waiting room (100 or so not 13,000) and that is when Randi, Paula, and Simon appear. So people are sometimes mad they wasted this much time in it. But there are those who just want their 15 minutes of fame.

That is just so sad. :)

You can tell the difference bewteen the people who are put through for attention and/or ratings but, some of those people obviously have no clue they suck. What about the guy who sang Bon Jovi and was all worried about preserving his voice so he wouldn't cheer and barely spoke until it was time. There are quite a few who are devistated when they here they are bad.
