Movie question

I was watching the movie Hairspray ( the one w/ Ricki Lake). They went to an amusement park that had a rollercoaster in it. Does anyone know the name of the coaster? Also, does anyone know the name of the coaster in the original Smokey and the Bandit? Just curious. Thanks in advance for your help. *** Edited 11/17/2007 2:47:13 AM UTC by Steve Perry***

I can not speak about Hairspray, but I believe SMokey and The Bandit was filmed at the Georgia State Fairgrounds which used to have a wooden rollercoaster. I believe it had been SBNO for several years when Smokey was filmed.

I believe the coaster in Hairspray is Thunderhawk. The park is Dorney.

The original Smokey and the Bandit was Cannonball at Lake Winnie.

Smokey 2 was Greyhound at Lakewood Fairgrounds.

Gonch is right, it's Thunderhawk at Dorney. It looks so different back then!

Not yet it wasn't. The scenes were shot in 1987, Hairspray was released in February 1988. It was still called "Coaster." In fact, Waters went to great lengths to try to only show amusement rides that were in existence in 1962, and the only miss I caught was the Apollo 2000 or whatever it's called (the swingaround ride).

It's in the closing credits, and it got one of the biggest cheers when I first saw the movie in Philadelphia almost 20 years ago: "Amusement Park sequences filmed at Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom, Allentown, Pennsylvania." The whole theater went nuts. Should be no surprise that the same types that are drawn to a John Waters movie would scream for an amusement park's name in the credits.

So does this mean, that the remake does not have any "Tilted Acres"?
Amber puking after a spin on the kiddie ride was one of the biggest laughs of the film.

I don't recall the remake version having any amusement type rides in it.

Of course it was. It can't be a John Waters movie without a vomit scene. They all have one.

I keep seeing this car commercial -- at least, I think it's a car commercial -- that I swear is shot at Dorney. You can see Steel Force in the background, and a couple shots of Thunderhawk. I keep flipping to it in the middle of the commercial. Very aggravating.
